Lol I believe many have. Took one of my own fins off the done on Thursday. Had a bit of bloodshed and a small egg (sorry brew, it wasn't a performance egg). Worst surf injury for me was torn intercostal muscles. Forget about coughing, laughing, schitting, standing, sitting, sleeping, or breathing for 8-12 weeks.
8-12 weeks...that's about half as long as you've been surfing...lol. How'd you do that, pulling a radical aerial maneuver, bro? Torn labrum for me....back in action now, but f'd up my winter last year.
Actually I'd only been surfing about 8 days when it happened! Was in some serious winter chop and was going OTF and just turned the wrong way off the board on the paddle in and boom, rib muscles injured. I'm sure the cold and lack of mobility in a 5/4 didn't help. Didn't stop me from surfing but did complicate comfort 24 hours a day. Yeah bro, 19 months in and you know Spicoli is smacking lips on the reg. Still getting shot OTF here and there for fun, too. The labrum tears are rough. I had a partial year in my minor ligament, if not more, months prior to starting to surf. Tell you what bro, if you are careful not to let your more explosive paddles get too ballistic then paddling will nurse your shoulders back to health. Mine are beauty now without surgery and I'm even trowing pretty decent weight up on incline bench now again. Not 4 bones like Shred, just 3 and change.
If I were you I would give up surfing and take up ping pong or something safer. You are a hazard to your self and others. Just sayin'
End of my first summer surfing the leash got wrapped around my leg/ then my ankle/ finally my little toe...panicked, ripped it loose only to discover after boogie-boarding in; my toe nail pointing towards my heel. Never will be able to "hang-ten"....hence the nick-name on here.
