Bro, some of these cats also look and walk like miserable people. I think we've gone through the full circle of life in dis tread. It all comes down to whores. Exquisite.
Not at all. It looks goofy. Not a fan of the lb personally but that just looks flailing and forced. a ripping sb ride should be flowing. I do appreciate a good cruising old school lb ride but this is kinda stupid. As Tudor said, 'if you want to ride a longboard like a shortbord, ride a shortboard".
+1 Yeah, he's getting it done, but he's obviously forced to make twice the turning effort than an SB and his stance looks uncomfortably wide. As far as his LB maneuvers...idk, running up and down the board looks like a hassle and riding backward is just stupid.
Tudor is a d*ck and I a not one to take sides in a LB/SB debate, but I've got to agree with you Pump, I'm not really digging the guys style. No doubt he rips, and it didn't help that the editing and music were cheesy as f*ck, but some fo the moves did seem forced. I don't really see how you can do an air on a longboard without making it look forced, but needless I say more, I did really dig the board spins and sprays. In Brews defense riding a 6' may come naturally to him because, if I recall correctly, he is in thriathlete shape.
if you take ten newbs and give them a 10 footer and a 6'2" which do you think they will get up on first?
Really long boards can be awkward for newbs. I started on a 7-2 funboard. When trying to teach my bro how to surf he was able to get up on that over my 9-4...he hated the 9-4, couldn't control it in the water. Having said all that, the long is obviously easier than a 6'.
Come to SC and try out my '78 G&S. That is a test of how well you can actually handle a log. I surf just fine. I am not a pro and still learning, but I also have a career that doesn't allow me to surf twice a day (unlike some of you).
I run about 5 miles a day, and stick to a heavy regiment of pushups/situps. I think the fact that I am only 5'8" and 150 lbs helps me on the shorter boards. Also, that's what I learned on, so it feels more natural. zaGaffer's Gallery Statistics Total Media: 0 Total Comments: 0 Last Upload: Last Comment: You don't have many pics there either, buddy. I thought we were talking about really surfing, not just standing up and riding a wave in to shore. Of course a bigger board is easier to stand on, and it is easier to catch waves with. However, once you got the most basic of the basic down to a science, they tend to be much harder to work with. Once you can catch and ride waves on a short board with ease, they are so much easier to toss. I would also take a shortboard over a longboard on a steep drop any day. If all you surf for 2 years is shorter boards, it is going to feel pretty weird to jump on a log. I am finally getting the hang of them, but still feel 100% more comfortable on shorter boards.
10' Noserider, well, what they considered noseriders back before I was born. It was a glassed on single fin that got converted to fin box sometime in the last couple decades. I can barely get my arm around it, but it has been great for training. Turns like a city bus. I have a 9'2" log that is currently getting repaired, which will be much better for maneuvering.
