I got the board, and to my surprise it shipped with some fcs2 fins.

He included 4 large carver front fins. Seems like an odd fin choice, and I suspect they are just shipping everything that is fcs2 with those fins. They used to ship all regular fcs with M5 fins. Not sure it's even worth running it with these. They have a lot of sweep. I've also never run the same size fins all around.

Here's the board. Outline looks pretty traditional mini-simmons but otherwise its more modern. Looks to have more rocker nose and tail. Havent looked closely at bottom contours yet, but I think I see a single concave running behind the mid pt perhaps changing to flat or slight V out the tail. The tail has to be pushing 19" a foot up! 23" at the wide point, incredibly light. Its a monster!

Precisely. I know on another model they have, the recomended fin choice was 4 m5 front fins, which always seemed odd to me as well. That said, I kind of think the fins they include are an afterthought. I wasn't actually expecting any fins with it.

I've run MR fronts with double foil gx trailers in other boards with success, so I might give that combo a whirl since I have them already, but for some reason that combo strikes me as a poor choice for this shape. Then again, I have little to base that on other than my gut instinct.

are they the 'glassflex' quads? the blue ones? if so you can pick up a set of the rears to match on ebay for like $30 shipped.

Is that a squished version of their Chopstick? Looks interesting... How's it ride?

wow, that's the widest tail I've ever seen. MR fronts could be great on that...but the GX trailers are way too small.

Sounds like they were trying to get rid of some unpopular inventory with those carvers. I agree, they looked too swept back for me...I'd probably sell them, in sets of two, to finance some decent size upright rears to go with the MRs.

No idea how it rides yet, FEDEX dropped it off yesterday afternoon. It will likely be a few weeks before I get to try it.

No, not a chopstick. Not base don any existing model. Designed as a longboard alternative for micro conditions and softer breaks I find myself frequenting lately. Back story is, I asked Mike about doing a mini-simmons when he was working on my FBF a long time ago. His reaction was less than favorable, so I dropped it and never got one. Fast forward 5 years, I got the itch for one again. Checked into the coil threads to see what's new, and saw a pic of one with a "simmons-esque" outline for someone in VA Beach. I questioned that rider about it, then asked Mike and he was willing to shape one.

He made it clear it's not a traditional mini-simmons. It's his take on a small wave board....which is fine by me. The other 2 boards he's made me work great. That said, both of the others have more top end performance than I expected. My disc was supposed to be my grovelor, but I find myself using it in bigger waves. For example, I took it out in Cristobal, and this passed Monday's swell. Was it the right board choice, probably not, but it handles head high waves better than it seems it should.

When I explained to him the use for this new one, I exaggerated about how low-end the conditions I expected to use it in would be, hoping it would end up having the same extra upper end capability the others have. I always intended to give this thing a whirl in bigger surf, but I just didn't tell him that for fear he would make it too high performance.

So anyway, if you probe with him about this board, just don't refer to it as a mini-simmons. I think you've had twice as many Coils as me, so you probably have more of a relationship with him anyway.

By the way, this thing really is a beast. It would make your Bloop look low volume in comparison. I can't remember the exact volume, but it's over 1.6 cu ft. 3" thick in the middle.

Crummy shot, but its all I could take. It doesn't have as much rocker as I initially thought. Maybe a little more in the tail than is typical.

Tail width is 18.5" and wide point is 23" forward of the midway point. It is super thick in the middle. 1.65 cu feet

pkovo, sic stik you got there. I am enjoying hearing about it and seeing pics. It was a good reminder that I need to get on my Coil for the first time since Bertha. Went back to the 5'10 HP for the last several weeks after the Coil still had an adjustment phase for me. Keep the reports coming bro.

So the fcs2 performers have the same template as the 3,5,7 series in the original fcs fins right?

If thats the case, I can try this combo in glass flex fcs 1 fins because I think I have all 3 sizes.

I'm guessing you meant 2.3" from mid point?

anyway, that's more rocker than this type shape usually gets...might cut a little into your glide, but will allow you to surf bowlier waves, big and small.

I prefer the rear fins to be center fins. I don't really like the 80/20 foil back there. It was recommended to me a while back and I probably wouldn't go back now. Medium performers up front and smalls in the back = happy.

i prefer flat sided fins...fronts all around! 80/20 or 50/50 is good on hp style quads w/ a McKee-style set up, but on fish or Simmons type quads where all 4 fins are set out toward the rail on a wide tail, flat sided fins work best, IMO.
