demoted - (surfing context) - was getting waves; then it stopped and was allowed leftovers only.
senoritas is the darling child (its a surfing beach) of the peruvian elite...goofys.....that is...

Once at Playa Remanso in SJDS Nica. The hardcore of the hardcore spots. 3/4ft at 19 seconds.

Some dreaded, tatted-up dude and his psuedo-chub-pig were the real-deal surfers from San Francisco. They were sure to tell me how they surfed every day and how much more legit things were back in their day. I was some learning kook who was happy to get one good left that day, I remember being blown away by how fast I went.

Anyway.... paddling out, Dreadcore and pig were with a female friend on the outside. On my way out I paddled to the inside of them and one of the women yelled "HELLLLOOOO," I guess to let me know that I shouldn't be paddling just inside them...

There is an outside indicator there and there was a clear lull. Sometimes the cool surfers just gotta let you know what's up I guess.

I've never had a problem elsewhere but I do my best to avoid crowds and I'm very passsive in the lineup.

I was surfing at Assateague National park one morning last week, and started paddling for a wave inside someone who was already paddling (I didn't see him at first). When I saw that he was already paddling I stopped and pulled back, but he paddled right up to me when he came back out to the line up and basically blocked me from catching anything. He was a really good surfer, on an NSP fish-type board, had actually never seen someone who surfed well on one of those. Finally, I took a left and he dropped in on me and just kind of turned around and stared at me, didn't say a word. I didn't say anything to him, didn't feel like getting into an argument before work. I'm pretty non-confrontational anyway, I pretty much tell every one hi and try to remember that my friends in DC and Baltimore are all at the gym in the morning, while I get to be in the ocean.

Once in Costa at Boca Barranca of all places. second day after a nice swell filled in there. Place was a freaking zoo, and a crew of locals were sitting on the peak. One main guy was just yelling at people constantly in Spanish, and taking the best waves of course. I hung around the main peak, and got some great waves, and he never yelled at me directly, but I gave him a lot of respect. Some of his crew started dropping in and blocking us though.

It was weird because some of these guys really didn't surf all that great. At one point I was dropped in on, but I zipped around the guy and he rode behind me the rest of the wave trying to yell me off "his" wave. It's a really long wave, so when I pulled out, we were far from the peak and by ourselves this guy wouldn't even look at me without his crew next to him.

regardless, I backed away from the peak at that point and left shortly after. Figured if I pressed my luck the next time I might be speared by a board or something. Besides,it was incredibly crowded and we had caught it the day before just as the swell filled in without the crowd, so it was a let down in general.

We went back to Hermosa where it was much bigger and heavier and I proceeded to break the tail off the only board I brought on the trip. Was my first surf trip to Costa...and the last one where I only packed one board.

That's unfortunate. I haven't seen that at AI national side. Not on the wild side, anyways. Maybe one cranky stanky older longboarder but even those douche canoes are rare. The north parking lots can get crowded & there's a coupla idiots that think they own the break. It's open ocean shifting beach break, efftards....

Where were you surfing, the North Ocean Beach lot?

The first lot, yes. The weekday morning crowd seems really cool there, I tend to think this was kind of an anomaly.

I am old thus line up regulation (both sides) was a way of life. But I have a good news story on the other side of the equation.

I paddled out to a super local spot on Oahu two years ago. I stayed off to the side minding my business while catching the scraps (which were super fun). The locals had to paddle past me to get back to the peak. Several gave me the old haule stink eye. I did not paddle once for a wave they were on. If they fell on the takeoff I didn't even jump on the shoulder. After a couple of hours one of the locals started talking to me. He expressed his gratitude for my respect. Then asked me over to the peak to take a set wave. It was was the wave of the year for this fella!

Point being- I could've been an ahole which would've resulted in an ass kicking but good surf etiquette got me my wave of the year.

I got regulated in a non-verbal way on the North Shore of Hawaii back in 06. The line up just sort of ganged up on me for an hour or so, and blocked me from catching any waves. I think they felt bad for me or admired my ability to wear it and shut up about it, because eventually the line up started letting me get a few. Basically, they regulated me before I could misbehave. They let me know whose break it was, thankfully in a rather polite way.

Its not unusual for real BS to happen in that lineup AI fed north lineup. I saw it a few weeks ago in one of those mediocre hurricane days we got. its the mix of old cranky west oc locals and people who just drove three hours to get there. they both "put in their time" and arent going to be deterrred
