Street Skating wouldn't be what it is today without the east coast scene , People like Ricky Oyola , Fred Gall, Vinnie Ponte, Roger Brown Ect. I ride pools and bowls only now 9 x 32 15 inch wheelbase 64mm wheels. Im always up at FDR and Skating the North Wildwood Bowl
I'd really appreciate it if skate shop employees would: 1) know what a wheelbase is 2) not look at the shelves when I summon them and explain about their product what was intuitively obvious to me upon first glance C) have any clue about anything in the store Was totally stoked to get some new hardware today and have the instant gratification of putting Carver trucks on a new semi-traditional deck. I must've spoke Chinese when I walked in though. My bad.
I've come across this same issue. What did I do when in a pinch and I didn't feel like waiting a month for my local shop to order my stuff. I just order from SoCal skate shop.
Lol bro you are on the money. Not like I ever frequent these stores if I'm looking for something important. I was there getting the iphone 7 fixed and walked by the place. At the end of a long ass day dealing with work stuff it would've been nice to enjoy the retail therapy of a fresh deck. Not the case with this McSkateshop. Obvi bro. It would've been nice to have fresh hardware in hand today though. That kind of day. You find the best stuff and prices online though. Dope. That you? And did you rip waves too? mitchell sent me pics and it looked sic.
i love skating still! i go through phases of street skating, had a mini in my backyard for years, enjoy bombing hills on little sector 9's from time to time but by favorite thing is probably still going to the park. i've skated tons of local south jersey parks (which is part of the reason i ended up building my own mini). skated FDR a few years ago and have been meaning to go back but after i sprained my ankle and broke a bone in my foot my skating slowed down a lot. i've recently gotten back into it and have been building back the muscle memory and what not. i have a 7.75 element with 53mm rictus and some ****ty independent trucks but they get the job done.. some recent backyard photos and even an old one from the mini days:
i just recently found out about paines park in philly, i saw it but was sans board so i haven't got the chance to check it out. was hoping to get out of work early this week or actually head out there this weekend all i've heard is good things about it! anyone have any recommendations about that place? is it worth heading to the city for? i mean it was super crowded the first time i saw it but it was also summer so i'm thinking maybe it will have calmed down?
2011 before I hit the old man phase! Paines is super fun! I've skated several paines parks and they are all rad!
Grew up skating street and moved to colorado when I was 18. I can totally agree with you on hills being scarier that handrails. Granted I wasn't skating tons of handrails... but at my peak, I was pretty good at skating. A couple of the kids I grew up skating with everyday are pro now. The area I lived in in Colorado, Steamboat Springs, I have always thought has to be some sort of mecca for longboarding. Its also home to the "Crown Jewel" of the longboarding community, Rabbit Ears pass. Do an internet search on Rabbit Ears Pass longboarding, and you will probably find people drooling over the thought of bombing it. Its about 7 miles, downhill the whole way. Takes about 45 min to bomb. IT IS INSANE!!! Bombed it once at 4 AM on a full moon, and had to stop halfway down because my legs were jello. Anyways, this whole longboarding vs street skating thing is just a moot argument. Both are fun in their own right. And when you live in a place with legit hills, it just kind of comes with the territory. All of the good skaters in Steamboat could bomb hills, and shred whatever. And as long as were on types of skates. My hill bombing board was a sector 9 joel tudor (can't live without a kicktail). And my regular boards, I looked for dimensions around 7.8 x 31.
7 miles, 45 minutes...so they're moving at an average of less than 10mph? They stopping for smoke breaks?
Maybe it was 14 miles? I dunno... its stupidly long. I didn't make it the whole way, and had to stop. My room mate made it close to the end and his wheels broke. His wheels were basically brand new at the top, and at the bottom he had worn them down to the core.
