While enjoying some really nice surf Saturday afternoon, we heard some big rumbling noises coming from the south. a) did anyone else hear them? b) any idea what it was?
That was either: 1. Shred slappin some gay dude for getting all up in his grill. 2. Blasters bustin a huge Carolina Cutback. 3. Bel Mar's shorebreak on a small day.
Most likely multiple choice #3 We here at Belmar are very use to that 'sonic boom' as you call it. You learn to sleep thru it after a while... I don't even hear it anymore... #belmarlife
no; but heres' some ideas. 1) blasters c-cutback 2) blasters charleston chop 3) head-on collision 2 F-250's at the osv in/out. subsequent brawl. 4) methane from buried whales 5) surf-withdrawal synptoms from those south and west of ocracoke.
Those booms occur fairly regularly. Heard it Sat. Good surf Could be Wallops island. Or some unsuspecting surfer getting tangled in WWII ordinance like we found in the break just about a year ago. Nothing like literally surfing a bomb.
They are doing some seismic testing down in NC from what I understand for the national science foundation. Maybe someone from down there can confirm this? Could be what you are hearing.
fine fine fine it was me i just couldnt help myself. i was at ai and did a cutback the others in the line up told me not to but i had to show them who the real shreder was to gain pack leader of the break. my cutback ended up being so hard that it broke the sound barrier im sorry yall for the loud noise.
I did actually hear something now that I think about it. I heard it from Indian River Inlet, DE. Like 2 or 3 big booms
I was down in Gruvi territory - south end Assateague/Tom's Cove from noon til 5. I didn't hear anything.
i hear sonic booms all the time in nj. I wonder how far these jets have to be offshore to go supersonic. Sometimes fishing offshore in the summer you hear them really well.
Yes heard it just after noon on Saturday, one boom followed by another smaller one a little later. Living right across from Assateague we hear that all the time and pay little attention. Rattles windows and knocks stuff off the shelves in the pantry. Always assumed it was a sonic boom or wallops. I'll interject one of my pictures of a wallops launch taked from my front porch.

Sonic boom...happens OFTEN. I work right at AI. That one was definitely stronger then normal. Rattles my windows at work. I bet it happens once a week in the winter, but not to that degree. Happened a couple months ago, which was worse...people were freaking out...made the news...but it's really not that uncommon...tho most are mild, but still enough to rattle my windows.
