Went down to AI last weekend and feel compelled to report. I offically declare this place to be sacred ground, maybe not the Mecca of the EC surf world(I guess that's gotta go to the OBX), I propose it should be our Medina. In sum: -I want to thank Mr. yankee for the OSV tour and the generosity displayed in the form of a big ole bottle of Knob Creek, also for guiding us in the right direction in regards to our general approach. And I want to thank Mr. Bill for trusting me to get us there and back safely despite my general disregard for legal concerns. -Fun high tide shorebreak sesh w/ the boys Friday, then scored it real good Saturday. -Before yankee left, we drove around and he yelled at everyone, spreading his doctrine of hate. -Some pics(taken from my Samsung Galaxy s5): Fun shorey: Zen pines, such suchness: My deer friend: This guy kept asking me for tree fitty: That is all. Holy land dudes, thanks and praise. Only thing missing is the Red Wolf population that used to be prolific in the SE.
beware hard-ass rangers ( i mean; berlin maryland is not exactly a hotspot) who WILL ticket you for damn near anything...especially for feeding the horses and even worse from the car.
metard that's what I'm saying! 2 fun shorey sessions that I really didn't expect. It was a treat b/c my go to's don't change so much on the tides. We kept our eyes peeled baddy. That pony really just wanted tree fitty, I wouldn't feed anything wild as it is detrimental to their survival skills. I did make an offering of herbal sacrifice to the pines.
Blissed out times indeed WBF. I think some future SI gatherings should be held here, think it'll be an annual trip for me now. And as far as the offering, gotta keep the Lords happy
That picture is small and my eyes are bad, but that's a whitetail, right? Did you see any of the Sika deer? Those always make me smile.
Exactly baddy, very inexpensive. JD solid trip indeed, recharged me brain. Mr bx, that is a whitetail, if I did see a Sika I couldn't differentiate, saw several deer on the move, but the guy in the pic just kept staying a few yards ahaed of us. Speaking of pics, how do you guys enlarge them when posting?
You would know the sika if you saw them, they're tiny, like the size of a large dog. Perfect time of year to be down there. I gotta move back.
It was tremendous to see that you & B scored mightily, hermano, & with more than good waves: sweet autumn weather, no crowds & the sublime aura of AI that makes it such a jewel. Gracias for maintaining my SI hate stoke rep. Especially in an election year. Gotta go now: there's hatin' to be done, and plenty of it!
woah seldom, travelin man, travelin the coast, glad to see your getting out of CT and following in the footsteps of he who inspires the screen name. Last time I was in AI was 12 years ago for my 15th bday. A surf trip with some friends, a 12 oz water bottle half filled with vodka, 4lbs of ground beef, 3 bags of hot dog rolls and 2 bags of doritos. We scored over head waves the first night, leash broke and Had to swim what seemed like 4 miles to shore in the dark. We brought scrap wood from a fence building business that my buddy ran and had to dig a hole 5 feet deep so the fire stayed contained withing the 8ft pieces of wood we were unable to cut. The rest of the trip consisted of the runs and some puking because we forgot to buy ice and the meat went bad and there was no way we were leaving our campsite Havent been back since, those memories are just too vivid to ruin. Glad you had fun
You and me both sir, gonna hit the Cape soon too but it was nice to get out of New England...don't get me wrong I love it but nice to see some new habitat.
Nice pics, I wish I had taken a few. As we discussed in PM, I was just down the beach from you. I've been hitting AI a lot since my son started at Salisbury. I call AI "OBX Lite"... Lite? Well, for me, it is half the drive, and the waves aren't nearly as punchy. (Although that shorebreak on Saturday was not to be trifled with.) The place has a similar vibe, what with the National Park, ponies, campground, etc. I like it a lot, as my weapon of choice is a log, and the outside break works well for that kind of ride.
For sure, I'm the same way, sometimes you just have to get lost somewhere with waves for a few days. My best surf trips have been ones with no intention of finding waves, just driving.
Jeez, Seldom. You took a trip, had some waves, even saw the ponies. Nice. I'm so envious, the surf's so bad down here lately that I think my break is broken.
