Just finished up fire season, and will be driving down the pacific coast highway from washington to SoCal. Any of you west coast people trying to show me some spots, or hook a brother up with a place to park the rig for a night? Will buy you a six pack.

+1 to this. I've driven the Olympic peninsula in WA, a fair bit of the Oregon coast, and the PCH from Point Reyes to LA. Fantastic drive, need to do it on a bike one day.

Keep us posted, put up pics, godspeed and good luck.

Tre, congrats on making it through the season successfully. You must've worked pretty damn hard and without much recreation. Now you get to enjoy things again.

I recommend you get out to Westport before heading south. There are a few Swellers out that way to charge with, the good brahs. Please rip some pave in Seattle before leaving also. Nowhere else are there the perfect inclines/declines for never-ending rides as there, plus real smooth terrain. Then drive down to Portland to enjoy that city for a night or more then heading out Route 26 Sunset Highway to charge Seaside. From there, you can head straight south along the coast and get pitted at spot after spot in OR/NorCal. Things stay great and keep changing scenes down the coast. I haven't done it all in one swoop, but I've hit PNW/NorCal/SoCal separately and love them all. The locals here can give you more and better help and sounds like they're willing to.

trevor, I am going to assume your name, I think it's pretty ****ing rad that you went for that job. I worked with a dude out in UT that would split his time between fighting wildfires in Idaho and being wilderness instructor in utah. Spent 98% of his year sleeping on the ground.

always had some good stories to share. If you got something, I am sure it would be better reading than most of the garbage here. share away mang.

McCall you seem to dine regularly on said rubbish, you must enjoy the taste. Speaking of Utah, I'll be there in a couple weeks for a few days. Whereabouts were you?

Tre, not tryna derail at all. You can tell by my previous response.

if I was doing that drive I would anchor my trip around swells hitting the following spots, depending on time....
WARNING LISTING PLACES I SURFED THAT I FOUND INA GUIDE BOOK
obviously the two epic points in Oregon
check out shelter cove and camp for free in an empty cul de sac, surf deadmans and no pass, both very good
also surf point arena in Mendocino, it is sheltered mostly in the NW winds, easy to poach a spot to camp
    take or leave santacruz,
Moss landing dune, not jetty, not too big though....
    JALAMA

    below that, I dunno.....

Southern California is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. You must be cautious.

Trev, I would offer up my place by Westport, but I figured that you would be burning through (pun intended) on your way south.

I'm not there right now, but you're welcome to use my driveway. Oh, and the water's turned off too. 15 minutes away from Westhaven. If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll give you the 411.

As far as surfing goes, once you pass Westport, your options become extremely limited as you probably already know. MIS is pretty much spot on, but didn't tell you about Shelter Cove being run by Whitey. And, notice that he wrote JALAMA in all caps...good reason. Then again, almost anything in Santa Barbara will be breaking well.

You don't need to surf name spots in Ventura this time of year, pretty much every spot will be good. Avoid the crowds, unless you absolutely positively *need* to surf the Strand (breaks like Blacks). If you know anybody in the military down there, ask about Mugu.

Nothing you need to know about LA County that you can't see directly from 101. Pick your poison.

Hook up with the SD boys on this site, they obviously know what they're talking about. My choices are LJ reefs, Blacks, Cliffs and IB.

Have fun, and let us know about your exploits. Don't let the wahines lead you astray (like Emass).

Probably best to leave it. There's no surf here, move along, nothing to see.
