Yeah, I saw quite a few at AI! I did sit and watch for a bit and beatdowns were being handed out all over the place. HA HA HA At both spots. But a good day!
Yeww glad to hear you buoys scored... the south provided us plenty of heavy shacks. at least two on the head for every good one, but damn I must've got some of the best barrels of my life out there... I love you NC... temps in the 40s to 50s at night all this week... we'll be pulling out the 4/3 in no time /: hopefully we'll get at least two more Gonzalo's before years end!
Was out all day Sat in Southern NC. Found a nice bar but was sandwiched in between the fisherman. Was small in the AM but got some larger sets as the tide filled in. Lots of closeouts and shifty peaks. When I could catch a right I had to scramble and paddle against the current to stay out of their lines. Got caught out of position a lot and got worked over several times. Last wave was the best ride of the day though, so I walked off happy.
I agree...you had to look around for a sandbar working, and be aware that low tide vs. high tide makes a lot of difference with 14 second swell. I saw waves both in OC and AI on Friday and Saturday (mostly OC) that were pretty rare form. Unfortunately my timing was terrible. On Friday I paddled out as epic conditions were going to sh1t in a sea breeze SE wind. On Saturday, I surfed well over two hours in the wrong tide/wrong wind and then had to leave when it was all coming together around noon.
Where were you guys at in AI right by the OSV, I surfed from 9am-1230 Saturday and all day Friday and it never got that big. Had to leave for work. Was it breaking larger somewhere else in the park? Because it was max 4 1/2 ft where I was when it was supposed to be 4-6+
I feel as if we really got shafted on this swell. It never really showed like it should have. I was very sad going fir 4-6+ft by never seeING to many over 4. Bertha was better surf. I had a we'd or Thurs like 4 weeks ago that was 1-2ft over head on a NE wind swell. Was hoping for thatfrom this swell. No more hopes
I think you left too early? I rolled in at noon and it was firing. I took the pic in this thread at 3PM. http://www.swellinfo.com/forum/showthread.php?24447-Gonzalo&p=275733&highlight=#post275733
Great tread buoys. Glad everyone hit it hard and got pinned. Had to split town on Friday late afternoon for biz and missed Sat/Sun in NE. That's ok since I got on the forerunners on Friday before my flight and that was just enough wapahhhh on the Coil to hold me over. I've worked something like 45 days straight including weekends and now taking 3-4 days to kick it like karate in Long Beach, give or take an hour north or south. Even bumped my flight up tomorrow from the evening to the morning since the 15s period is leaving by Wednesday. Gotta buy a cheap board off Craigslist or find a decent rental. Water is still in the 70s there hell yes. Looks like cats can get stoked on Fri/Sat in NE as well and I'll be back first thing Sat AM to hopefully score DP sesh. Great to hear all the score reports. Keep em coming.
my water time has been limited with my work schedule and re-roofing my barn, but I managed to squeeze out an hour sesh saturday night and a few hours sunday morning. Sat had some size, ended up getting a handful pretty quickly, felt undergunned on some of the sets but fun all in all. Sunday was way smaller, kinda punchy, couple of ramps. I'd say I scored based on the circumstances but definitely not surfed out
Here ya go Zippy .......geez it was fun ! azt Sat Early afternoon Taking advantage of Friday afternoon wind STeveS Sat afternoon
