You're a handful, TDM. A handful of what, I have no idea. And try not to guess what's up with Yankee, sparky, you come off looking goofy not glib.

Vote for me in 2014, sparky.

Then stop buying them dummy! Dont be a sheep and buy the typical "name brand" because they look cool. They are pop outs believe it or not. Mass produced to stock racks to sell to newbs who don't know any better...

imo this statement is true. i am also a 'heavy footed board destroyer' and have found myself quite content
with the durability of firewires especially after years of tolerating sub-standard products from lost
and CI....(they worked fine but basically disintegrated)...

I've driven 95 too many times north to south and I always felt the same way. On that 95 stretch you don't really hit the south until you pass the Phillip Morris "statue" monument thing on the west side of the road.

To point out--- I had a lost board once and the glass on the bottom developed spider cracks within 3 months. Didn't let water in but made it hard to sell when I got sick of the shape.

like so many others not sure what happened to it...it didn't break cause the only boards i have broken
    in half have been losts...

Odds are that they will all be the same. Standard 4+4 on the deck.

If you want a PU surfing board to last longer, you will have to custom order a board with a higher density blank and/or 6+4 on the deck. Obviously it will be heavier, but it will last longer.

You'll be happier by ordering one from a local shaper/builder.

"stock" glassing for all major board builders is 4/4 deck w/ a single 4 bottom. that's not gonna hold up under the feet of anyone over 170lbs...the bigger variable is the quality of the foam. all things being equal, ****ty foam will kill a board before the light glass job will.

& if you're really that concerned about longevity, stop buying your boards off the rack. go custom (all those brands you mentioned will happily build you a custom board) & spend the extra $$ for a better glass job.

I was going to say moonlight. You can get a CI or Lost shape glassed by them although it wont be off the rack. Hey NJ, weve chatted before about CB boards. I have one of my own and have felt others. Seems like they might hold up better because they glass a bit heavier than others by the weight of boards. Maybe a 6oz is standard for them? I had a lost motivator that was really light but would ding easily.

it could be, but i kinda doubt it. my octafish is lighter than my custom shelter & mblv, both of which were glassed 6/4 on the deck. malcolm might use a higher density blank.

Maybe not enough people have used them, but the Lib Tech boards are durable as f*ck. I have had mine over rocks multiple times, dropped it, stomped it ect. This thing keeps on ticking and is environmentally "friendlier" if you will. The rails are seriously thick glass and the deck has the lightest pressure denting I have ever seen on any of my boards after a little more than a year of use.
Also Stretch boards I will agree are glassed strong, but they will dent and crack. I have had two of them and they are all dented up. Now I just lend them out

I have had a couple Vernon's...they hold up very well...but it seems the are glassed heavier. I have had ci and may hems, both held up well...tho, I change boards quick...think I have been through ten boards in the last year...I have a serious surfboard buying problem. Always trying to find that magic board. Hell, if I see a pro rip with it, I can only assume I will be able too...NOT!

I think the bottom line is all boards ding...all dent, etc. The question is really what are you willing to sacrifice. Weight, flex, durability, etc. Its all about a balance...any of the glass shops can make a board that will not pressure dent...but I am sure you would not be satisfied by the weight...

In my opinion...NJ is on the money...the type of blank, glass/weave, resin, etc. all are going to impact the overall durability--but what are you willing to sacrifice. To the OP...regardless of who you are buying a board from sounds like you are looking to go custom.

Going 6-4 on the deck instead of 4-4 makes a huge difference. Also a stomp pad makes a big difference.

Regarding foam, it's not the quality of the foam, its the density. Below is the density chart from US Blanks. I always use Blue, Red or Orange.

When I build a board with Orange (the lightest) I have no illusions that the board is going to hold up. I could glass heavier but that defeats the purpose of going with the lightest blank.

You really want a shortboard to last have them make it with Blue. Get a 6-4 glass job and heck have it glossed. Old school early 80s style.

this is a great graphic, thank you.

also reminds me of what i forgot to mention in my own boards: customs are finished w/ a sanded gloss coat.
