Not saying whether it was right or wrong, but inevitable considering the current socio-political climate. As this has been discussed in other threads I felt compelled to share. Dated but this is the first I'm hearing of the incident. http://thefreethoughtproject.com/police-officer-shot-dead-pointing-stun-gun-mans-dogs/
NOT Citizen vs. Cop... POS vs. the world Doesn't sound so much like a case of Cops vs. Citizen to me. This jackarse released his dogs while he hunkered down in the house. Doesn't sound like someone who's too concerned about the welfare of his beloved pets. Read the more detailed account of this situation here: http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/bethlehem/index.ssf/2012/05/george_hitcho_jr_guilty_of_in.html Sounds like this POS was stirring up trouble and trying to set up the cop for a kill shot.
wrong. If there was no cop involved it may be manslaughter at worst. A good argument could be made under the Castle doctrine that he was protecting his property. Had the situation been reversed the cops would have not hesitated to shoot out of 'fear for safety' with the excuse 'i didn't have time to determine if it was a stun gun or real gun'. hell, the recently shot a guy to death for pointing a POWERDRILL at them using that exact same rationale.
Perspective How you choose to waste your money is none of my business... but all indications are that this guy was not a class act. Apparently he was quite proud of being a cop killer! http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/bethlehem/index.ssf/2012/01/inmate_george_hitcho_wishes_he.html You Really contributed money to this jack-tard's defense fund?! Wow, if that's truly the case, I have a 12 foot redwood "Dragon Sled" custom built in New Zealand that I'm willing to let go for only $500k!
No.... you don't get arrested or jailed for shooting attacking dogs. However... I did not read all of the links but considering the officer was engaged with aggressive animals and was shot over it, the lunatic who pulled the trigger seems to have zero defense.
its not attacking if its in your yard, then its defending anyone want to go to terminus? I heard its where all the survivors go....
Really??! Wow... just wow. Regardless of the circumstances, I wouldn't be proud of killing anyone. Justified, maybe. Proud, never. In the case of the brain-damaged lunatic in the article who effectively loosed his dogs to deliberately attack the police.... he brought their response upon himself. He put the animals in harms way with malicious intent. The outcome was predictable. His shooting the cop in the back of the head was utterly criminal. You sound like a proud and protective dog owner. I respect that and would wager that you'd never cower behind your animals, putting them in the line of fire like this idiot.
You know, 98% of all cops of POS. I live in a community where properties are close together. One particular night, the cops showed up at a rented garage apt behind my house. The owner was away and had a friend pet-sitting his dog for him. Turns out, the 'friend' OD'd on heroin and somehow the cops were called. The cops, with all their flashing lights, were banging the crap out of all the doors and window and walls of the apt. Obviously, the dog inside was barking like crazy. I never really knew the particular neighbor, but I had seen him and his dog together and the dog was super chill and happy. Anyhow, I crept down into my backyard which is directly next door the the rented garage. Long story short - one of the cops was saying "Shoot that f**ker, shoot the f**ker!" He was saying some EXTREMELY ignorant sh*t, for ANYONE to say, much less for a POS Cop to say. At that point, I made my presence known. And I told them it's a friendly dog. At which point he made some wise-ass remark after I said I didn't know the dog's name. By this time, they were able to lock the dog in a separate room and get the guy who OD'd. So, after the most everyone left, one cop stayed to wait for animal control to take the dog. And when animal control showed up, he shot the dog with a bean-bag gun to subdue it. The next time I saw the dog, it was missing one of his front legs. So yeah. F**k the police.
Something similar happened in my parents area. dog jumped into a truck and the owner called the cops. Cops show up and instead of trying to get the dog to come out, they taze it. It falls out and when it did, they said it 'charged' them and shot it.
Ah the always gray area. Everyday messed up stuff happens with two sides calling victim and pointing fingers. I don't condone the firing of any weapon in anycase, however, Ive watched dogs attack other dogs for no reason, people attack dogs for no reason, and people attack people for no reason. There will always be two sides, and bringing something like this to justice will solve the problem for one side and piss off the others worse. My girlfriends mother has been a cop for her entire career. Before I met her I thought of most cops as corrupt, senseless power mongers, and upon listening to stories she has, its more than apparent how often the common citizen plays victim for acting like a dumbass. She owns 3 dogs, loves dogs and has had to pull her gun on dogs that "attack." She cant express how it feels to point a gun at someone pet, especially when showing up to a location where the unknown is the only consistent factor. You cant tell if a dog is going to attack or just act protective until it makes that final lunge. That being said, my dog acts like a gaurd dog until shes withing 2 feet of you and then all the sudden she licks you to death. My landlords dog looks like a cute cuddly teddy bear and then he prances up to you and bites and attacks the **** out of you. I am not surprised when people react defensively at first.
the problem isn't the dog, its the rambo mindset of too many cops. Every hear about postmen getting bit? it is very rare because they have training on how to (non-lethally) deal with dogs. as far as pointing the gun, why do they even need to do that? they have non-lethal options but so quickly go to the gun for any little thing.
Hey thanks for helping. Maybe you can also invite him (and his dogs) over to stay at your house for a while. I'm sure he's a really nice guy whatever the cops may say.
