Very solid post for a newcomer. I'm eager to hear the tales about tails that UTB has.

Sorry bros, but that's love. Tough love is still love.

When the dollar was strong and I was a young man I was living a short distance from nyc airports. One could get 4 day airfare/hotel packages for $400 to Amsterdam from Newark. Back then it was 50 guilders for shuck-n-fauch, which was about $28 USD. If you've ever lurked the alleyways of Amsterdam you'll know they range on a scale from 1-10 anywhere between negative 6 and 43. I was young and full of testosterone. Like a Chinese buffet, I tried EVERYTHING, from the disgusting unidentifiable junk that's been sitting there too long but you eat it on a dare or out of simple morbid curiosity just to know what it taste like, to the sesame chicken that you can't wait to dig into. Two, make it three six foot tall Nordic chicks with fake boobs at the same time? Yup. Fat Eastern European women in their mid 50s? You gotta try everything once. Life's checklist. I actually visited AMS with a swellinfo veteran member in 2001!

If you're into Russian girls and/or Brazilian girls, go to Frankfurt Germany. Prostitution is legal in certain districts and they are second string white girls and Braz girls in abundance from 1-10. Did some window shopping when I was there but after Amsterdam in the 90s it's hard to settle. Germany is filled with FKK clubs, which are whorehouses where you pay an entrance fee and you can hang out naked or in a robe. They have big screen televisions, saunas, a bar, hot tubs, pool tables, etc., and they're packed with whores. You are under no obligation to obtain their individual whore services. There are people banging out in the open, in rooms, in corners and hallways. So bizarre. I watched the World Cup kick off in Germany (two cups ago) from an FKK club in a beautiful old building surrounded by Russian girls and didn't spend a dime on anything other than booze. Russian pros are good company.

I was in Vienna in 2004 and we visited the home of this girl I had been train hopping with. We met her sexy Germanic mom and after a few glasses of wine it came out that the mom had done a series of bondage videos in the 80s. The daughter never knew. That evening I discovered that the apple doesn't fall from from the tree. Fun fact: they don't charge for blood stained sheets in Vienna.

Ah the romps of my youth...

So.... are you going to leave us hanging on this? It's nice to make money and have time to surf.

Are you a day trader? Personal Trainer? Do you dispense marijuana? Do 'body work'?

Generally surfboards don't move so quick on craigslist this time of year. Let it sit then call the guys. Tell him it's got too many dings- offer 200 while holding out the cash. Then ask if he will throw in a leash and fins. Maybe even some wax too. No more then 300....

Just my .02 cents, that board looks like a poorly made garage knockoff. Wait for another similar board made by a respected shaper and it will be worth the $300-$400 you're willing to shell out. The old adage of "you get what you pay for" is never truer than when it comes to the art of shaping.

But then again, I don't believe that a surfboard exists that is worth a million bucks either FWIW.

The pictures are terrible, the ad doesn't even name the shaper, and the board is way out in the middle of nowhere (no offense). That thing's not selling. If you want it, go ahead and low ball the hell out of the seller. I can't really even make out the general shape, and have no idea what the bottom is like, but that looks like it could be a fun little stubby shape. Buy it cheap, throw a flex fin on there, take it out east and report back.

I love craigslist speak, at least if there's never anything good for sale in Jax, I can still make it worth my while by getting a laugh. "Vintage" means a browned 1980s "3 fin" covered in black wax, unsanded repairs, and full of holes... but still "worth" 200 bucks because it was "signed" by the shaper. They are either idiots or looking to sell to them.

the thin layer of scum that's on it is probably worth the same amount as the board itself

sorry for the double post, but it's a hobby of mine to lurk craigslist for things that are obviously stolen and even sometimes hassle the seller by asking them questions about "their" item that they can't answer

Heard about this thread and thought I’d register and chime in as the shaper of this board. My name is JD San Jose and my label is Vital Force Surfboards. I started shaping in 2010, though it’s been something I’ve wanted to do since childhood (Turtle and Chandler inspired??). Like many that started around here, the accessibility of blanks and tools when Greenlight opened up made it possible to go down to the store, grab a blank and have at it. That’s exactly what I did and the learning came from doing and doing and doing… shaping was/is self-taught with design inspiration from the waves I surf and a heavily rotated quiver in the past - from thrusters to fish to hulls and everything in between. I had the rare opportunity to work as a sander at a glassing factory in NJ, UnderToe Glassing, through most of this year until it unfortunately had to downsize due to not having enough skilled surfer laborers to keep up with the amount of boards coming in. I spent a ton of time there, opting out of a more lucrative day job and learning all aspects of board building from the owner Brandon Winn and laminator Kevin Rider. I’m most grateful for that opportunity and the support of my family, friends and customers that allow me to continue doing what I love and actually have it become a way to earn a part of my living. It ain’t easy, but I don’t believe that anything worth doing is.

I’ve taken a more grassroots approach and most of my orders have been from meeting people at the beach or in the water. I’m not big on social media or even have my full website up and running, though that’s the type of work I’ve done for years for clients as a graphic designer. I’m slowly working on that, but as long as there are boards to build, those come first. And yes… you can say they are homemade, as that’s where I’m setup to do the work - design, shape, glass and sand - start to finish.

Here’s a couple recent boards and I do have a few at Glide Surf in Asbury Park if you wanna have a feel as pictures only reveal so much… That said, contact me, take a ride and make our own judgements. I’m always down to get feedback on my shapes and will offer demos if I have something that interests you.

Thanks for reading and looking but now it’s back to building.

    JD

No problem... I knew you felt it was it wasn't worth the $ by your original post.

"Should I buy this I feel like its a good deal at 450. I've seen other boards like this sell for 5 plus."

I'm no expert on forums, but I'm pretty sure you shouldn't advertise your product and/or business on your first post in someone else's thread. Just my two cents, not that anyone asked for it.

Edit: Even though he is the shaper of the original board. A "this is my board, hope you like it" probably would've sufficed.
