Take the info of the boards you think are looking good for what you want. Then walk/drive/bike that info to your local shaper and talk a little story, be honest about your skill level and design a board. Easy, local, custom for you, and will prob be about 200$ cheaper than a ...lost, ci, js, blah, blah, blah brand name out there.

I've been looking at one of these for a little bit so it's nice to hear someones personal experience with it, thanks! :)

That's what I'm worried about I don't want a boat - main reason I don't like my fun board is because on larger days if I catch one in I either have to wait for the set to go by and then paddle back out during the lull or try and get back out there, get pummeled and pushed back out to square one. Great workout but I'd like to surf more waves.

Get a round nose type fish/boat/puck/pod/plank.

Remember you can make any board turn but not if you ain't catching waves!!! If you have the choice of a little bigger or smaller go bigger.

Don't know anyone who regrets it.

And remember it usually takes about a month to like a new board. Keep the faith.

    Peace.

Just ordered a 5'4" fish...didn't care for the lost rv and decided to put it up for sale. For whatever, those wide boards I just don't care for...my rv is 21 1/2 and joe I had was the same, tho the joe was much shorter...I decided to try something thick, 2 3/4 and a little less then 20" wide and 5'4" and see how that goes...it's thick but it's for some serious crap surf...won't be doing much top to bottom with it.

I still say fish, but some one mentioned a Stewart fart knocker. I rode one once in very small crappy waves but it was fun, extremely easy to duck dive, lots of float and paddled well. Still toying with the idea of getting one or having a shaper make a copy of one.

That's some crazy dimensions! I have always hated any board that felt to me like it was on the narrow (to me a fish under 20" is narrow), thick side. But I'm also pretty sure I rarely give a stick a long enough shot before giving up on it if I don't like the feel of it after 3-5 sessions. Good on ya for trying something different a shot. Interested in how you like it.

I've seen both of your board for sale...liked the Joe outline, but I've got way WAY too many boards I'm not even riding much right now.

By the way, to the original poster, as completely SICK as a board like the Christenson Ocean Racer is, I wouldn't get a twin - keel Mini Simmons as your everyday go-to small wave grovel board. They are amazing boards, but kind of excel in certain conditions and no so much in others, IMO.

If you want a short boardier shape:

    DHD double shot
    Lost RV
    Rusty Dwart
JS pier pony or show pony
    FireWire potatonator

It sounds like you have that shape covered with your weirdo ripper though-- I had one and found it to be a small wave short board with a faux fish tail. Didn't like it.

If you're looking for a fisher shape:

Super brand Fling has great reviews
FireWire baked potato will get you up on anything
WRV fugget or nugget, one of the two

If you're looking for a rounder shape that will pick up anything:
Lost couch potato or baked potato
Bing dharma- I've seen dudes shred these
CI average joe-- I've seen a dude have a career session on shoulder high on one of these.

    Caroline,

My wife rides a 5'6 bottom feeder and she is almost your exact size. She absolutely loves the board (as do I) and it is a must on the east coast mush. She duck dives it with ease and it has brought her surfing to new levels. Most will be of the opinion you can ride a lot shorter given the higher volume of these boards and your size however I would caution you not to go too short as you can lose some paddle power with decreased length (if you consider yourself a strong paddle then nevermind!) Good luck!

This ^^^ Ride one and you'll see how overachieving it is. May be too much vol for her though, depending on length.

Bro is that your original post of that hashtag or did you do it in the previous tread? Can't believe that one flew under the radar the first time around!!!

The Rusty Dwart I'm definitely interested in it does remind me of the WR but it has a lot more volume which I'm looking for - gonna check it out at one of our surf shops and see what they have to say about it for our breaks

As for my weirdo ripper it is the stock dimensions for the 5'4 so it's only got 23.3l which I'm sure some people could ride in weaker waves but it's a big change from my 44l funboard ha - I had been searching for a short board (looking to truly invest in a brand new one) and I liked the weirdo ripper but knew it was a little too performance for me to drop $700 or so on. Then when I was checking out the used boards I found one in my "recommend" dimensions for super cheap so I grabbed it thinking it's great to have while not burning me $$ wise so I can still invest in a "happy medium" board. What can I say I'm a girl and I love to shop hahah!

Let me say again the Dwart is a sic board. I've done more on 18" waves on a 6'1 Dwart than other days in 3-4ft with other SBs. For a thicker board, it sure is responsive and doesn't feel corky.

Thanks so much for the reply! This information is really help - gives me a great starting point when looking at size, the 5'6 your wife has sounds perfect at 33.1l & glad to hear it's got a great review from another female surfer :)

Do you have any sizing advice for the Dwart? When I use rusty's quick volume calculator it only shows me T-Dwart around 6'2+ but I know it's narrower than the original - I was thinking maybe the 5'10 at 36.3l or the 5'9 at 34l wouldn't mind having a board a little taller than me

    Thanks!

I'm not one to give sizing advice for a 125lb philly. Only know what works for me. I rode the 6'1 because my buddy had his out one day and I took some rides on it and loved it immediately. If I were to get one I'd pick up the length you're mentioning, that is for me at 5'11 185 or so. If it were a winter purchase, then the 6'1 or bigger.

Spicoli is zero help for you on this one being far from a petite wahine. Would think you'd want a fatter gromboard but even saying that I'd be advising you which I'm not fit to do.
