so I was thinking about making my own skimboard instead of spending 150+ on a new one. I grew out of my small zap wedge and need something with more foam. I heard the only way to go with skimboards is a flat bottom but I was thinking of 50/50 rails but I'm not sure if it would work.
First off, skimboards have a very small rocker/nose lift. Flat skimboard and the only thing you'll be doing is eating sand... Secondly, don't skimboard anymore. Skimboarding is for kids. Honestly, have you ever seen anyone over the age of 20 skimboarding?? nope. That's because surfing is a lasting sport and you can do it all of your life. Start surfing and you'll thank me one day.
You should be able to use a flat foam panel, bend in about 1" (guessing here you'll need to take measurements) of nose rocker in the front 12-18" of the skim board, then glass it. IDK about the rail shape.
Brandon Winn of UnderToe Glassing Co....used to make some sick skimboards...but probably a better question for some of the Swaylocks crew.
Made this one for a buddy. Wanted a more surfboard looking one. This one is 52" × 19" × 1.2". I make all mine with 1.5" nose rocker and .75" tail rocker. All flat bottoms with no concaves and down rails.
Holy crap that is a surfboard. It's a little over 4 ft long! My 9 year old's surfboard is 4 ft. Is that a skimboard for a 7'6" person?
Nope.....thats actually pretty standard size for a medium sized person. Hell i have seen them up to 58". Check out a skimboard sizing guide....you might be suprised.
