almost 21 yrs old, and crave good surf. Work hard 50-60 hour weeks in the summer and am barely hitting 15 hours in the offseason. Got lucky every summer swell on a wednesday I was off. Just switched Sunday even though the forecast is changing expecting a fun bump and am trying to get wet. Should I grow out of this phase? Probably would only make 30$ at best so waves look to be a better option. Feedback? Finishing my associates at community college.
I'm 59. From 19 to 50, the only things that's kept me from surfing was work and visiting my P's. For the past 9 years, Ive worked for myself. Now, the only thing that's keeping from surf is the lack of waves when it's warm and my frozen pooswah when it's cold.
I'm 36 and I surf every chance I get even if I have to get suited up on the most freezing cold day with a half hour of light left. Don't grow out of it grow into it.
Look, you're getting a degree, ok, it's an associates degree, no offense but you're either not the sharpest tool in the shed or you're of average intelligence & today's America has enabled you to go get a degree of some sort. Whereas, in years past, you'd have gotten a trade, some skills, under your belt, made good money, married the HS sweetheart, popped out a coupla spark plugs, paid for them through age 18 & then they gotta hit the bricks & fend for themselves. Back to you, though. So you'll have an associates dgree, which gets you in some doors but not the bigger doors. It's America it's life.
I'm nearly 40 and I still do whatever I can to get out when it's good. Your 21...don't even question it. Surf as much as you can. I assume you don't have a wife and kids, or a mortgage, or the rest of the responsibly that is likely to eventually show up, so take advantage NOW. It will likely be much harder later. You don't have to act old when you start getting old, but... There is nothing like being young.
If you can blow it off and surf, go for it. I am 42 and still crave the wave! You will have plenty of time for responsibilities later. LOL
Screw responsibilities go surf i'm probably calling out of work on sunday hopefully the forecast picks back up
I surf or skate when ever I get a chance . As long as all my work is done and i meet all my family obligations I go have fun and enjoy life
Yah, right on, blow it all off, go surf forever. You'll still be waiting on tables or popping some other dead-end job with no bennies when you're 45.
I think yank might have been alluding to an associates being like tits on a bull and back in the day an able bodied simpleton with a good attitude could just work in the trades and make money. times have changed but back to the discussion. wife: Are you going to so and so's funeral/birthday/wedding/christening/rodeo/whatever Me: dunno, lets see how the day plays out when we get there wife: you're the worst Me: i know I know 36 years old and I have based my job/career around surfing. Not making bank, but making a living and I surf more than any other person I know who has to work 40 hours a week.
