Anybody surf the Bahamas before? Ive been looking stuff up and found out they get some decent swells compared to what weve had so far this winter.

Reason I'm asking is cause I'm goin on a cruise and was wondering if anyone had info on renting boards around Surfers Beach. Most consistent spot that I came up with from my quick research on the surf scene. The cruise is docking at Nassau so we'd have to take the ferry to Eleuthra (sp?)

Anyone who knows a little more feel free to drop a few lines.

I dont know much about the surf scene in Bahamas. I know Jamaica gets some good swell from time to time(see Drive Thru, fuel tv:). Ill be in Barbados in less than 3 weeks and Im soooo pumped! Ive been there before but didnt surf that time although we rented a car and drove over to soup bowls. Looking down over the cliff at the big "mushroom" rock will always be engrande (sp?)in my mind. Ill be down in the action this time around.:D

    Surfing in the Bahamas

Are you going down on the Dirty Dan? If so I would recommend bailing on the surf and snorkeling and diving. It seems You may have only a limited amount of time there and while everyone else is partying take advantage of the john boat and scout out nice dive spots. Be sure to take a underwater camera(disposable or go pro mini) because of all there is to see. If your not going with dirty dan group and have some time might as well go on surfari. Have fun.

Goin there for spring break in March on Norwegian Cruise Line and well be in Nassau all day, dont have to get back on the boat till 11pm. If the forecast is holdin up for the day I think itll be worth the trip to Surfers Beach for a little surfari just gotta find a place to rent a board.

Snorkeling is deff cool Ill be doin lots of that on the inner islands.

there is a surfers beach on Eluethra. looks like it can get pretty good with the right swell...there are some other sots as well. be sure to take a little tackle and fish the flats. if you have never caught a bonefish then you are in for a treat. ferrarri of fish, real spooky tho.

    tough call

I used to live in Eleuthera. Surfers Beach is in Gregory Town on the North end of Eleuthera. While Surfers Beach is supposedly the most consistent break in the Bahamas it is still relatively fickle. Nassau to North Eleuthera is a 2 hour Ferry ride on the fast ferry. It leaves at 8am from Nassau and leaves North Eleuthera at 4:30 for the two hour ride back. Keep in mind that Eleuthera is 100 miles long. From where you arrive in North Eleuthera, you still have a 20 minute ride by taxi to get to Gregory Town, and then a interesting bumpy car ride or walk to get to Surfers Beach. You could probably get your hands on a board- there are a couple of places if I remember that had boards (it's been 10 years since I lived there). While there is a rideable wave at Surfer Beach sometimes, it is rare that it gets Epic. If you know the swell is N and going off, it may be worth the adventure and headache. Otherwise, get some conch salad from under the Paradise Island bridge and a cold nasty Kalik and go snorkeling.

    Thanks for that info stinkbug.

Yea I've come to the conclusion I'm only gonna make the journey if the swell is goin off real nice. Id rather just take it easy and have a no stress vaca, dont wanna worry bout ferrys and ****
