My metabolism broke after college so I have to exercise constantly to avoid getting too fat for my boards (ride 'em a 'lil under volume for 185lbs anyway because floaty boards hurt my knees). I have recently got back into swimming because the aforementioned knees cannot take running 3 miles more than a few times a week.

Anyhow two weeks ago I was showering at the gym and left my trunks by accident. Days later when I realized this, the surf had come up and I needed new boardies (we were still wear long sleeve tops). Cruise to the NEX and on the sale rack sat a one pair of Volcom and a one pair of Salt Life trunks in my size. I paused for a minute as I do not identify with the typical Salt Life wearing crowd. But they were 4 way stretch, not neon, and $22.

Then I thought what is a core brand anymore? I been a while since I have rocked Volcom tees or really any major "surf brand" (will still never rock Salt Life tees regardless of the price). I'll support the local surf companies or grab a souvenir tee on a trip but I don't need to tell anyone that I surf or need to fit in with the posers that wear "surf brands".

Years ago I realized what Confucius said was true: "he who wears Andy Irons rising sun signature surf trunks is least likely to surf like Andy Irons." (or maybe I just made that up). Either way... honestly Gucci Volcom is just as douchey to me as Salt Life. I'll pay top dollar for quality in boards or wetsuits but I don't see anymore quality in a Quik shirt for $20 than a back of 5 plain white Hanes tees for a slightly lesser price.

So I took the plunge into the Salt Life and SI brothers it is nice for the price. Not sure what the point was other than to tell a tale having drank a few beers.

Edit: Maybe this thread should be a contest to come up with the best "Confucius say______" about surfing.

i might have to drop by the nex and grab a pair.

BTW you do realize you are supporting a local surf shop, the brand started across the ditch in jax beach

I dont care if my boardies say 'free blowjobs' as long as they are inexpensive and 4 way stretch

I only have one. How often do you really need them?

During the year, I probably use my boardies more in swimming/bathing situations than I actually surf in them. But it's chiller up here and I tend to travel during the warmest months.

Damn bros. I got a gang of boardies. 95% of which are from TJ maxx or ross. Like $7.99 - $10.99 a pop (usually brand new, but the models from 1-2 years ago). You gotta have at least 2 pairs though. You ride home in wet trunks in the whip? Gotta have a fresh pair to change into if nothing more, even in the dead of summer.

I'm telling you gents, hit up the Ross/TJ Max/Marshalls.... $70.00 boardies at a 1/10th of the price. carry on.

All surfing aside. If I am not at work and don't have any real obligations, the only thing you will catch me in are boardies and a tee shirt.

Last pair of O'Niel board shorts I bought (50.00$) lasted one year. I bought three pairs of shorts from TJ Max for 10.00$ each. Been wearing them for 5 or 6 years. I just had to take out the mesh so my johnson could roam free!

yes, but, how large of a decal did you put on the back of your vehicle, and where is it in relation to the flip flops and browning antlers? Remember symmetry is key, and there is no such thing as too big, or too many. And THIS is the salt life
