I cannot stand this cold crap. Fun looking lefts coming through that have a little opening to em. Go to throw my suit on, power the soloshot up, then the contemplating comes through my mind. Its too damn cold out there. I just wanna be back in boardshorts with 70deg air temps. Lets all take a swellinfo trip somewhere warm and inviting.....BelMar.

Dune that's about the dumbest post you've made since your joke about the Boston marathon bombing. What a kook.

I know. It was freezing here surfing today in Florida. Ocean was only 74-76 and air started at 59 and didn't get higher than 77. The wind really chilled us. Luckily we all had our wetsuites on. A huge spinner shark leaped up only ten feet from one of my buddies. Thought it would land right on her.

Water temps on the island average around 45 jan-march, up north in Nags head where dunebilly's at its colder. Both spots can dip into the 30's though. Surfed the lighthouse today, it was ehhhh, but water was probably 60, and air was maybe 45. 3/2 boots and hood for the NW wind.

I have to say I don't mind the cold. Cold = space to move about and better surf. Warmth = crowds, surf schools, traffic, and parking nightmares.

The Carolinas in winter are my September. I'm in a 6/5 by now in nh/me. Air in 30s, occasional 20s, and a wind somptn fierce. Water in the 50s and dropping. Love it.

Sick Ryan.... How big are those waves? Looks waist to chest but it's always hard to tell at a distance & in an unfamiliar spot.

Post up some more pics & tell us about it (maybe in another thread). I've heard good things about surfing Iceland. Does Bjork shred? Is the light like surfing a 6 hour DP? Any shark/Kraken sightings?

I REALLY hope this is the prevalent attitude for the East Coast this winter. It's only November. I will be So stoked.

There was a great travel deal on Icelandair back in May, and I jumped on it as part of our 10 year anniversary. We went to NZ for our honeymoon back in 2004, with Iceland being the runnerup. We always wanted to go to Iceland.

My brother and his wife surprised my girls at the Blue Lagoon. He was on his way over to London for business, and flew Icelandair, which allows you to have a layover for up to 7 days in the country.

Iceland is beautiful. I took tons of video and pictures, about 16gb worth. Reykjavik is a very safe city. My wife and the girls went off on their own while I did a day trip with Arctic Surfers, which provided board and wetsuit. The day trip is expensive, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Now that I have surfed there, I only want to go back and experience more.

I have some brief surfing footage at 6:10. I made sure to turn the camera around for Hanna:cool:, but the music may piss him off. Went with Of Monsters and Men, a local band from the island.

Lol, I was surfing today in 33 degree air temp. Don't talk to me about cold. Bit odd when the water is warmer than the air though.

    Hey little dune brah

I actually understand what your trying to say here.. Unlike the other swellinfo.com guys... The whole temp thing is kinda relative- your just not use to the cold down there in the south. I saw some little waves the other day.. But it was little... And cold. I didn't want to get out of my warm truck. So I didn't. But if it was summer I would be all about it.

    Anyways...

Little Dune brah - I am all about taking that trip to the Belmar. The air is always warm and the water never dips below 68.. Although you know why that is- don't you? it has to do with Labrador dogs...

Cool. Thanks for the post man. You have a beautiful family. To have a fam that can go on trips like that and enjoy it, while you sneak in a surf... you've done well man. Bonus credits for the Griswald quote at the end.

Waves weren't quite chest high, but they seemed fun nonetheless. Nothing gets me going like surfing a strange foreign land, knee-high or not! Iceland looks a lot like Patagonia; sparse, arid, and windswept.

I doubt the South coast gets much swell, as most of it faces SE, but that mega-Jetty at about 11:00 minutes, DAMN, I can imagine that thing firing.

    Thank you.

The south coast gets plenty of swell and will generally work off anything from a SW to a SE. Water was about 45-46f and is typically 4 to 5 degrees warmer than the north side of the island. It just happened to be very small that day, knee to waist on average. One decent size stomach to chest wave came out of nowhere as I was paddling back out, but I was out of position.

Kids did great considering they really didn't sleep on the 4 hour and 54 minute overnight flight, cramming a nap on some uncomfortable airport chairs before hitting the Blue Lagoon at 10am. Flying home you basically chase the sunset, leaving at 5pm and arriving at 6pm.

We would go back in a heartbeat. We felt like we did it all, but there is still so much more to see there. Felt like an arctic version of Hawaii or NZ.

Although its colder here on LI, I feel you. It's getting cold here, waters fine but at sunrise the air is in the 30s-40s and more often then not winds been pretty strong. Cuts right through you. The other day there was a nice little thigh high left, no one out, that I would normally be all over. Just to cold for how small it was though. It's that time of year where you start to pass on smaller days, even when it's good, just because the cold isn't worth it. We all will get used to the cold though. It's just starting to get cold, in a few weeks it will just be another day at the office.

I did the NJ to Southern California transplant thing this summer. I was surfing in northern san diego county yesterday and some guys was wearing booties and complaining that the water was getting "cold." I laughed my arse off and paddled away in my 2m short sleeved wettie. i just wish it actually would get cold to keep all of the morons out of the water.

Ryan "The man who shoots North Jersey" 7, dude, did you guys see any elves?

A lot of you guys missed a thread aboot Iceland submitted by some weirdo a few years ago.

But, Iceland has elves (huldufolk) who live amongst the rocky outcroppings. If they think you're cool they will reveal themselves and invite you to their domiciles where they will serve you coffee and pancakes.

Ah man, that has to be one of the greatest surf experiences ever. That geography....the landscape....the points.....the friggin elves......

Good for you Ryan "The one who shoots North Jersey" 7

Oh, Dune, how's your sister doing these days. Did ma and pa arrange marriage for her yet?

And dude, yesterday wasn't that cold. Everybody feels the chill when the weather first turns. You'll get used to it.

I did? Damn. I need a copy of your calendar, it goes by way slower than mine. Where'd you buy it?

I made a post maybe a month or so ago saying this is how it would go. "Bro it's October, wait till nov" "kook, it's only nov, wait till dec" "bro it's dec, barely cold, go snowboard" "you still with us bro? Feb is cold, go home" etc etc etc. Lol, you crack me up man.
