I keep going back and forth.. Something will jump out at me on my daily craigslist stalking session, eventually. Almost bought an 8ft bing collector.. but hesitated and it was gone
Beach House Classic boardshop in Bay Head might have something or if you can wait til spring they have the big swap meet
9'3 single fin. A pretty classic noserider shape. I very much enjoy it the rare days I take it out. Gotta be small, clean, and lined up though.
Was it right before dark/after work? That was me... Red and white longboard. I saw 2 guys to the jetty north of me, but don't remember anyone at the jetty south.
I generally prefer long boarding. I really like smooth fluid style. I can appreciate the athleticism of a lot of shortboarding but it just doesn't appeal to me aesthetically. There are exceptions (like Curren), but a lot of shortboarding (even pros) just looks spastic to me. I have two single fin longboards (one nose rider and one pintail) that I ride whenever it's below chest high (sometimes bigger if I'm in the mood). Nose rider is for really clean, perfect conditions, pintail is for everything else. Above chest high, I ride a single fin shortboard. To be honest, a pintail longboard is a great choice if you want just one board on the east coast. I'd probably be a much better surfer if I just rode that.
Ah.. No. I was at the main SL spot in the afternoon.. There was only one person in sight and they were one block North.. dude on an lb.. Thought I just caught it at the right time.. But apparently it was empty all day
That's an interesting post. Though I love the aesthetics of SBing, I can see how you would classify it as spastic. It's a whole different song at a different BPM. Do you skate at all? I'd find it hard to imagine a pool and bowl skater wouldn't like SB surf, unless you were strictly LB skate.
Man they all really missed it...I was at the 'presidential' spot. I usually don't surf there but that's the best (as far as peeling) that I have had there in a longggg time! While I was out- I thought to my self... Man this is the kind of waves that you want to share with someone since they are sooo good! But then I looked around And watched the sunset and changed my mind ! Ha it was a blessing that no one was around! It was perfect!
Got an 8'3" single fin "mini longboard" and a 6'8" that is more or less a local shaper's version of a takayama scorpion. No SUP. So my "LB" isn't really a LB and my "SB" isn't really a SB. Guess I'm just a misfit.
Yeah bro. The denizens of SI. Forget who coined it, but it was a few months back and it stuck fast. An awesome term. Where you been bro?
Great thread......for now I have a 7'6" Hobie "Slick".....and a 6'6" KG "L.Mabile".....picked up a Slyde handboard with a pair of Da Fin flippers....No SUP....try to get IN every size wave possible.....location and wave size determines what I use.....bodysurf too.....fish when its flat......but usually take it all with me because of NJ's fickle conditions
yes. i own longboards and ride em all the time, on no type of wave in-particular. small days, head high days, whatever. if i'm feeling lazy or if my body is aching, i'll longboard. if i'm traveling, and i need more board to paddle out to a reef that's like a 1/2 mile out, I'll longboard. if i feel like cruising, and just having pure fun, i'll longboard. the longboard serves it's purpose in a lot of situations. i reserve shortboarding for better waves. my range is from a 6'0" to a 6'8" i also use a fish for groveling-type waves that are worth surifng. better get used to riding a longboard, or a longer board, if you plan on surfing for a long time.
QUOTE] [/QUOTE] Because of your extensive "quiver" so not to embarass you ordered these Tim Nolte customs; the 9'6" done in coke bottle green with tail block and a 10 footer for those smaller summer days @ AI. Since then added another 9'6", a John Ashton with less rocker but no Sup. Thanks Yank [
This X2 Picked up a used 9'6" Walden Magic a few years ago for a steeeeeal ($350). I know LBing has its stigmas (especially since I'm a young guy so it automatically makes me more "kooky" when I paddle out in parts unknown) attached to it, but I love walking the nose. I'm all about the lay-back stuff. I haven't touched my shortboard since Sandy in 2012 actually just because I haven't really a had a reason to. I have never ridden a fish though, and I think it would be conducive to my style, plus save me the hassle of hauling a huge board from the parking lot. Nice thread idea for us east coasters.
