Stop *****ing...you're paying hundreds of thousands other peoples unemployment... and don't act like we CHOOSE to go on it. Some people are just more fortunate to take advantage of unemployment more than others.

Whew! tell you what, I could easily live off of $400 for like almost a month. I like to cut the corners and stretch it out a little, man, and If anybody's making $100,000 a year anyway, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt them too much to get laid off for a bit. I could barely crack $25,000 one year and I was working my ASS of doing outdoor labor. Hah! last year ( I just got my W-2) I didn't even crack $10,000.

I'm probably gonna get ass-raped on taxes and I'll probably owe. Taxes are fuucked up.

Just a little info on unemployment. Everyone stops paying into unemployment insurance at roughly $55,000. Any income above that is not subject to unemployment insurance. So someone makeing $55,000 pays the full amount of 3% of total income where someone making 110,000 pay only 1.5% of thier total income, and some making 1.1 mil a year only pays .015% of their total income. Kind of a joke.

Also to state that people still lucky enough to have jobs are paying for everyone on unemployment is not totaly true either. Everyone that qualifies for unemployment has paid into it by an amount that justifies the amount that they are recieving based on income and length of time paid into unemployment. The only thing that I kind of feel is not right is traveling outside the country on unemployment and sending that money in a different country at a time of economic crisis in this country (the one that is good enough to pay unemployment). Just my 2 cents.

    Unemployed as of Monday

On Monday I went in to work at Merrill Lynch in Salisbury and my boss called me to his office which is nothing out of the ordinary, he then proceeded to tell me that all new hires from the last 3 years were laid off as of right then. Definitely a bummer but I'm taking this opportunity to attempt to move to the west coast again. I've got an interview in March with a firm in San Diego so maybe this will all work out for the best :)

    There is hope

I am current emplyed with an engineering firm that is barely holding on and had been waiting for the doors to shut. However over the years I have building relationships making connections, doing my job to my best, and am straight with everone I work with and have worked for. And now it has paid off. I just put my 2 weeks in for another job. I am going to be the Service coordinator and wastewater operations specialist on the demarva for a manufacturer. I am going to be corrdinating the service guys, inspection wastewater treatment units, and doing the system startups for new wastewater plants and systems. Better yet, I am on my schedule so if I want to surf I can. Since I started surfing I have always dreamed of having a job that will work around the tides. I spent alot of time getting to where I am today and it is truly paying off. Expecially in these economic times. Good luck to you all out there looking for something. Just stick in there and confidance is the key. When you find a job you want don't ask for it. Tell them you want it and ask when you start. My current job I was actually turned down after my interview and I wrote them a nice letter telling them they made a mistake by not hiring me. A few weeks later they created a new position for me as an Environmental Specialist.

Keep Going!!!!!!!! This world is out playground!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds pretty sweet faillingsky! Congrats on that.

I am sitting here everyday waiting for the word on whether the project will keep going or be stopped.

Our's is the only casino that has yet to be stopped so far in the economic crisis... I still don't see how they can keep going. Time will tell... and short time at it.

I feel for everyone losing their jobs, but it is comforting to know that I'm not alone. I have been with Maryland DNR for going on 3 years and they have furloughed us, taken our state vehicle away and threatened us with job cuts. Some say the state is just lobbying for money and times aren't that bad. In my opinion, they are. But everyone is going nuts (understandably, with family to support, bills, etc.) over the thought of losing their job!
All the while, the more I hear of job cuts, the closer my dreams of moving to Costa Rica seem. I am hardly a pessimist by any means. And hate to bring up politics on a surf forum, but unless something drastic is done to fix our unstable economy and our weakening dollar, the worst is yet to come.
Those who are against taking money made here in the states out of the states due to the economic crisis... I got news for you. If you have taken any trip out of the states in the last 10+ years you are a hypocrite. This isn't something that snuck up on us overnight. This was bound to happen. Especially while were off trying to establish democracy in countries who don't want it and pay billions in foreign aide for people who never see it.
But, what I originally meant to say is that it is nice to see people who don't get consumed with all the negative and who will remain happy with less. All it takes is some waves and enough cash to keep us fed to get by.

Good luck everyone! Vote Ron Paul! (even though he probably won't be running again)

i was kinda expecting it, as i said earlier in this thread, and i got canned today. what a great time to recently graduate from college and be dropped into the job market with no marketable work experience. Ron Paul or revolution are the only ways i see out of this mess.

wait your saying that we need somethin drastic done to our unstable economy, right? But isn't Ron Paul a liberatarian so he would try to stay out of those major desicions because liberatarians implement as little government intervention as possible?

Well, I would call it drastic when proposing to stop income tax, doing away with the IRS and stopping all foreign aide including to Israel. Not what you meant? Or do you mean little intervention as in not going into any country we wish and forcing them to conform to our western ways of living by means of military occupation? Plus, Ron Paul is hardly liberal. He is an Old Republican. Read up, sang son

I don't care what party Ron Paul is in. Ron Paul is the man. He was the only guy making sense during the republican debate a long time ago. And they were just making fun of him. Like Mitt Romney - he's an asshole.
