There's lots of precipitation and winds up north with this current system. It headed south and SoCal is as wet as it's been in a while. Wondering why everyone is making a big deal of this though, is it simply because there's rarely rain? On the cams no one is out and those waves look better than what I was happy to paddle into yesterday at home. Friends are talking about runoff and getting sick if you surf today but we paddle out at rivermouths all the time in EMass/NH. Heavier onshores right now no doubt but it's getting real calm this afternoon (says the report) and the swell is there. I'm doing the math as well as using my eyesight looking at cams and it appears that there's mad good waves to have today there. Am I off base in thinking we charged much worse this week on the EC and were fine with it? Tomorrow is sunny again. Only the second time it's rained that I've been out there in about 10 trips. Was a torrent on Super Bowl Sunday last year.
Here we have regular rain and better natural and man-made irrigation and filtration structures. Things are, as a result, cleaner. Because much of California is arid, and the irrigation structures are different, toxins, sewage, & other detritus build up. When the big flush comes, it all goes into the ocean.
during the summer, 90% of the volume of the Newport river through the RJ's is treated waste water....bathe in poo yall!
That's some good heads up Slash. The pieces of the palm trees are everywhere in Honeyton. Kind of a mess. 25+mph must be a lot for out here. Not a single surfer out. And it's a Friday afternoon. I'll take that as a sign.
i'm right by salt creek and i saw only one guy suit up and go out today. no one out at sano or doheny either. the last couple of days were a blast so people aren't in a hurry to get the hep A or ear infections. one area that the east coast beats the west coast on all day is the water quality.
What you think about tomorrow? Creek is awesome and I was possibly headed down there if it was good. Up in HB now. You're in Mass too? Seems like we live a similar life lol I'm out here a lot this time of year.
an emass guy too. i used to come out and spend a couple months each winter in la jolla. now i'm 5 months into a 7 month trip. even though i'm walking distance to the creek, church/middles and san o for longboarding with wife are my go to spots. in 1 hour at salt creek you will see more spongers than you will see in new england in a lifetime. i'm not sure if i'll surf tomorrow. this rain is still flushing all of the junk from the rivers.
pretty gnarly up here on the central coast. Waves were doh-toh yesterday and damn near hurricane force offshore winds last night (looked pretty, but impossible to get out even if you had the b@lls). Thought for sure, it was going to be blown to hell today, but ended up scoring one of the best days of the year (for me). I think the gross water kept the crowd low...hope I don't pay for that too hard.
Chest to OH glass for most of the day today. Will the water quality really be that bad still? I surf rivermouths out east during and immediately after rain. It's not like I'm not exposed to less than pristine water and I've not encountered trouble yet.
Keep it up troll. I'll just put you on ignore then you can make angry replies to my posts that I'll never see. Maybe that'll still make you feel better. Or you can go make the more productive and successful choice and mind your own business bro. Btw, it's Saturday AM...doesn't your family need breakfast or something? Go see how they're doing. You're never gonna meet any of us. Well at least not other than Jawn.
It's night and day. The river mouths you surf in New England are nothing like Cali. It is much sketchier out there.
Damn. It was pretty intense rain. WTF. Chest to OH and clean. Good thing I got a new Carver Fraktal yesterday. Still, I need to be in that water.
Ok there are 3-5 cats on every peak in Honeyton from the pier to Seal. Can it be that bad? Gotta paddle out now. This Carver Fraktal is off the chain. Though the less than 16" wheelbase would be problematic (Green Room almost 19") but the tail slides out unbelievably well. Still keeping my wide stance and back foot is behind trucks but that seems to help turns. I'll have a bit extra Vit C in my drink this morning to ward off the parasites and viruses.
Just go surf Emass, if you get the sick you know it was bad. So-Cal is poopy water no matter what. Just a lil more poopy after the rain.
This is kinda funny. With all the rep Cali has for max environmental regs, the water is still THAT nasty? I really had no idea. Honestly. The Jersey dudes are sayin it's bad! Don't drink too much of that stuff EMass. You ain't built up a resistance. Might end up like...
