I was looking into going to a school in north miami. i am from NY and for then most part we get pretty good waves you just might have to go out in below freezing to surf sometime. i was wondering how the waves get over the and also how cold is the water. Thank you.
The water is warm, and the women are topless, but the waves are rare. It is a short flight to PR and Central America, and a 1 to 3 hour drive north for waves. Hallandale inlet is in North Miami, and the Harbor House Hotel is the local spot. It gets OK on northeasters. South Beach is a 45 minute drive south, and is totally zooed out on the rare day it goes off, which when it does, it goes A frame barrells, sometimes in the 23 foot range.
It goes from junky wind swells to placid. On very rare occasion a ground swell could sneak from the north between the mainland and the Bahamas. These waves have pealing lefts but also a hell of a lot of drift as the swell is being channeled between the Bahamas and the mainland.
forget it . go to school at ucf and drive 40 minutes to cocoa beach and points south of there and a lil north
To NYC? Sure. Here, I'll help you out: You're gonna need to be more specific. The more details you give, the better people can help you.
What Antoine said. Look at UCF (Univ of Central Florida). If you can't get in there, try for Indian River State College or Eastern Florida State College. They're easier to get into.
Yea, somewhere in Central FL will be best and most consistent, but North Florida (UNF, Flagler College, etc) will also be more consistent (but MUCH colder) than anywhere in South Florida.
I lived there for 6 months surfed quite a few perfect vag there but there is almost no swell window as far as waves. I surfed in the ocean about 15 times in 6 months and 14 of those times I had to drive 3 hours north. It has a swell window about as good as Staten Island. Go somewhere else unless your prime motive is pu$$y.
I was with Dade Cty Ocean Rescue at Haulover Beach in the late 90s. The surf was a joke; maybe 3-4x a year it was >4 ft and clean and even then it would last for about a day, maybe. Quick flights to BVI, PR and Eluethra though, plus, about every hour of every day you saw the most beautiful female ever, often nude, or close enough
like everyone else is saying....drive north. no waves near miami. closest break will be in jensen beach. which usually sucks ass anyways. you should definitely look into UofH. haha.
lincoln ave and neptune ave are definitely more consistent than north miami for sure. but you'll never need a wetsuit, hoodie, booties or gloves. or surfboard for that matter. haha
Screw Miami, look at Brevard County, consistent surf and warm water and short drive to North or South FL
From what I can gather from the swellinfo posts- it sure isint a Belmar.... Probably like ny in the summer- but all year round in fl- talking about the waves conditions The water is most likely clean- you probably will not have to worry about All the contamination from the big city Probably not as many needles either. You know, in the sand and stuff. Ppl are probably a lot nicer. Nice slow pace of life. But yea- waves just like summer in my. Pretty much flat.
