He deserves it...great kid, really good surfer, surfed better than anybody else on tour this year. I wouldn't consider him in my top five of style all time but I wouldn't put fanning in there either. White people will be hating on him cause there's this weird white supremacy vibe in surfing that is somehow acceptable on internet forums. This existed when Sonny was on top too but to a much lesser extent since the internet gives every asz clown a bull horn. So congrats to Medina and if you listen to his post heat comments he is super humble. Also, super cool that he missed half his heat and came out and still won it.
I will have to say that coming in at the beginning of your heat and celebrating and all is fuking lame. Finish your heat and then celebrate. What disrespect to the guys surfing the heat, the Hawaiians and the whole circuit. I never liked him much but now I really do hate him.
They might not admit it but this is so true^ I'm glad he went back and finished his heat Let's be honest at 20 Medina is a lot less pompous than most people his age
pretty much this. & this was pretty much a foregone conclusion...no way the asp was going to "let" any of the other guys win this year...they've been pushing this kid along all year. he's good, but he ain't world champion good. not yet, at least. his behavior proves it. leaving the water early in 2 heats? **** you, kid. ****. you.
Disrupt? From what I watched I wouldn't call that disrupting, he may not have been surfing during the heat but they most definitely didn't stop the clock for him to celebrate.
Who gives a crap what he did? So everyone has to do exactly what king Kelly does? F that....I completely would've skipped my heat and just started pounding brew. It's amazing how people just wanna hate this guy cause he's not a white guy from US or OZ....it's the nasty side of surfing. ....and he's in the final so I don't think him missing half his heat would've mattered. If Andy or Bruce pulled that it would've been "he didn't give a split about his heat and then paddled out and won it half way through..."
if you try hard enough, you can drop dead! talk about a bunch of racists. SO SAD AND WEAK. ALL YOU GOT IS SOMETHING ABOUT RACE. WEAK *****ES.
So... Quick question. Kelly was the youngest surfer ever to win the title at the age of 20. Gabs is also 20, however his B-day is in 3 days. Does this technically still count? Like do they both hold the record? Or is Kelly still the youngest ever to win it (based off of days)?
NoT to mention that i am sure none of you have been watching asap comps for as long as a few of us, so you know nothing about much of anything in how they push their agenda, regardless of who it is.
The whole year has been a little better then crap at each venue. Medina was coached smart, plain and simple. He took very few risks, even at during some of the bigger comps, swell wise. Medina IS/ BESIDES (JJ) the best in the world in certain size waves, this year proves that.
Don't get it...has a lot of character in his interview so what's your problem? What does this even mean? Illegible
