I was wonderin about what kinda injuries can keep u from being able to surf. My doctor thinks I have tendinitis in my shoulder or a torn rotator cuff. Shud I stay out of the water tomorrow or give it a shot. Also, I figured this would be a good thread so post some of your worst injuries uve gotten surfing or bodyboarding. Or in the water.

I got hit in the head with my thick funboard and it made me blind for 2-3 minutes. I have hit sand hard. I also hate crotch chafing from all day sesions in boardshorts. Any way to prevent that?

Yeah. . . don't wear the boardshorts and forego the wax. As silky as a baby's butt.

baby powder helps with that...powder yourself up before your session and then after you shower...helps take away all the moisture..i would imagine vasaline works pretty well

Got a bunch of injuries surfing, but the strangest thing was when I got a cut on each butt cheek in two consecutive sessions from falling on my fins. The second time broke off one of my fins. What's really weird is that the cuts are in the same spot but on opposite cheeks.

*i broke a board and the front half smashed me in the face, in turn breaking my nose

*i jumped onto a submerged rock, worst bruised foot the podiatrist had ever seen, 3 months of ultrasound physical therapy to heal... no joke

*in Hawaii i ripped a 8" gash in my left calf with some coral

*type 2 right ac joint shoulder separation, my collar bone now protrudes permanently

*summer surfing with boardshorts my ball sack chafed so bad that it looked like i had a bloody zipper down my sack, that f****** hurt

a few lacerations from fins on forehead arms legs;back and feet.

numerous scars on tops of feet from leash ripping across the feet under water.

2 broken toes from a tripple oh cliffs set wave. snapped my toes up against the board underwater.

reef slash on forehead when I tried to land an air on the flats at a reef point in baja. landed in about 6 inches of water, front foot smashed right through the board and like a slingshot my head went down on the reef first. bloody mess.

wosrt one though is this: in socal, they say never surf after it rains. well, I didn't listen and surfed a bunch of days after a rain right by the jetty at the end of my steer. it is a rivermouth. the doctor said it must have been an ingrown hair or cut on my lower body, but I got a real bad staph infection in my leg from all the bacteria in the water. I kept surfing for weeks. finally I couldn't walk, and a bruise turned all bloody on my inner tigh. when I removed a bandage the next day, it took off the scab, leaving a gaping wound in my leg. looked like a 50 calibur bullet hole in my leg. I almost passed out from seeing it. I could see the muscle in my leg clear as day.

needless to say, after 2 trips to the e.r. and a ton of antibiotics, I was back in the water 3 weeks later. longest 3 weeks of my life.

don't surf california for 48 hours after a major rain. it never rains here so when it does it carries a whole years worth of bacteria out to sea

well i've never gashed my head open on a reef, and i'm a girl so ive never had any particularly uncomfortable chafing, but I do have pretty messed up shoulders from years of competitive swimming. (Up to 5 miles a day... yeah.)
it makes paddling rather painful, esp when the swell's coming through thick and fast. does any one else have this prob? I've had tendonitis for years (Im 20, haha) and I keep postponing an acromioplastic surgery. Accupunture actually gives some relief, but if any one has experience in this area, I'd love to hear it!

UUgh!! Don't post pics like that!! god damn!

Gold Bond works wonders, I use it daily in and out of the water. It;s 3rd next to deodorant and toothpaste. Yellow bottle is normal, but if you're feeling bold, try the menthol in the green, that'll jumpstart your day  Plus it keep your balls from stinkin and from swamp ass. hahaha!

The only problems I have are VERY sore ankles and feet. It leaves me limping when I get out of the water. I'm gonna try to start wearing like an ACE brace or something like that for support, any of you BBers have those problems, or remedies? (Probably a dumb question)
I stretch my calfs and my ankles hust about everytime before/after the best I can, but I still come up with aches and pains, and it's starting to slow me down and make me miss waves, which makes me upset

    Suggestions??

The only one that really seems to bother me is a bruise/popped blood vessel right below my lower rib, its right where i lay on my board when paddling. It pinches so bad when i lean to my right side to paddle that it seems im being stabbed by a prison shank! I dont know what it is but its been there for 1 mo. already.

    dislocated shoulder... not fun.

I originally dislocated my shoulder snowboarding. Once, it comes out, its easier for it to come out again and again as the ligaments are stretched out. Once it just came out as, I was paddling for a wave.

Anyway, having my shoulder come out while wearing a 5mm suit sucked... Kept me out of the water for extended periods of time from healing and surgeries.

A couple surgeries later, my shoulder doesn't come out anymore, but I also have reduced range of motion.

yeah my shoulder pops out often too. ill be digging for a wave and all of a sudden its like, "hey, why does one arm feel two inches longer than the other?" sucks lol
