I've ridden 3ft short period windswell in Jersey with more juice and punch then 6ft ground swell in Florida...OCMD and OBX get a lot of juice too fall to spring...OCMD can produce some dredging thick heavy shore breakers when all the factors add up. I've never been north of Montauk but from what I've been checking out it's on the list for April...Let's go Jesus...
this makes sense. i would also add a beach or two in new england and at least one on long island. yes that one.
Hogwash on all spots. The East Coast has ZERO consistency. Best place would be my bathtub every time I shower. Don't believe me?? Ask my rubber ducky--he will tell you!! As for New England having better breaks than NJ, maybe I am jaded, but I see it the other way around. New England, northern side anyway, never breaks when you guys south of Cape Cod are getting 10 footers. For a surfer, NE is truly a wasteland, or better said, a waste ocean.
Depends on which swell direction is most consistent that year. Some years there's no place like home. Nova Scotia
I love my neck of the woods and I don't think I'd choose anywhere else to roam on the East Coast, if I had a choice. I have spots that provide the pits and juice. I have the spots that give me long shoulders. Is it the most consistent? Definitely not, but I have a lot of other obligations that would keep me out of the water just as much if I lived somewhere more consistent. Plus, I'm in one of the few parts left on the East Coast that if there are no waves to be had, you can still get outside for plenty of other things to do and function like a human being was intended to.
or,, tweak da concept...instead of by region how bout by beach? whats the best surfing beach on the east coast - any within reason criteria allowed. 1) squan 2) lihouse 3) hoity-toity hamptons 4) sebastien 5) ruggles
Too many people confusing quality vs. consistency. The topic at hand is consistency. Not which wave is better, has more punch / power, we're not discussing reefs, points, etc., It's about CONSISTENCY. FL and OBX take the cake in that department. It's not even a debate, it's a fact. You could say OBX is #1 and i'm fine w/that though. New Smyrna and Cape Hatteras have long been labeled the most consistent breaks on the entire East Coast. Look it up. If your beach doesn't have ride-able waves more than 300 days per year, you're not even in the discussion.
Sadly have only travelled north to Long Island for surf never had to really leave jersey...outside of Central America, West Coast, etc. what I am really mssing in The NE that I can't get down here? Also, Baddy squan number 1? Really...serious question? A lot of ther quality jetties than squan--Lo** Ar***? Sometimes even the hook...?
yeah. i have many moons under my belt as a sandy hook lifeguard/moco local (MOCOLOCO?) - many times better elsewhere yet more than others squan - to me at least - not only holds it (south jersey prob) but also dishes it out. FYI i have never surfed stack-hammer beach by the verrazanno bridge...
Actually the very first sentence of the first post asked what are the most consistent places to find fun ridable waves?..(i.e. consistency AND quality). After all, what good are consistently mediocre to crap waves. IDK...i'd much rather surf one-two sessions a week in fun waves than five sessions a week in waves in onshore slop. By the way, i'd probably go with north-central Florida and OBX for consistency. My issue with Florida has always been the winter onshores that seem so persistant.
The people claiming Florida....anywhere in Florida.......need to get out and travel to any state North of South Carolina. Sheesh. But hey, you guys have the nice warm weather.
JawnDudeski!!! Some seriously fun and perfect spots up there... But gotta hit it just right... I used to camp out and surf (and oh yea.. Work) up there a lot years ago...some good memories ! But we are blessed here bro- we have Belmar, NJ (best break on the east coast)
