Why dont waves combine in height instead of when they come together, like friday they become smaller. Fridays six feet on the wave maps and they are down to waist because of a one foot swell combining with it?
im no scientist, but from what I've seen, they kind of mix into and average of the two. like, in socal we get combo swells from the north and south at the same time. usually when that happens it creates really peaky conditons rather than the typical groundswell lines that arrive lonf and clean. so, if there is a 6 foot noth swell here and a 2 foot south swell, the average set waves r about 4 feet. but u can see which sets have a dominant south angle or north angle. so the sets that wrap in from the south stay about 2 TO 3 feet and when they combine with the north swell it maxes at like 4 to 5 feet. so, point being: a 2 foot south swell gets in the way of the larger north swell. so they don't combine. they slow the larger swell down and create different angles on the wave faces... when they combine, they usually leaves shorter wdgier rides because the sections get move around during the combo.
Jimbo_Robinson wants to know if its gona be clean friday? And isnt the ground swell gonna mess it up? He doesn't belive that.
