I'm just curious. Back in the 70s, I surfed AND skated. Prolly 50 / 50. Since taking surfing back up a few yrs ago, didn't start skating. Been thinkin about it, but the bug hasn't bitten I guess. Emass had me close to pullin the trigger on a Carver, but now he's been captured by wahines I reckon. Here in G-Town, we have lots of skaters. Some people skate everywhere. No car or bike. If ever there was a good place for me to start skating, it would be here. Might get interested, just not yet. Again, I'm just curious what y'all do.
Used to roller blade quite a bit for a number of years: early-90s to 2005. Some ice skating too. Not anymore. Still have the skates though.
Snowskate. I built one last year and bombed hills for 3 hrs today. No control turningwise, you just have to keep your knees bent as s/it and ride it out.
Was 50 50 up until the past five months. But its hard to make the time to skate when I got too much other stuff going on. Been surfing ever second I get, Ill get back on it soon, just dont know when. I should make the drive to groton or whiterock so I can actually skate something with some flow in the park features. Rhode Island has to lift their transition law, its really hindering my ability to drop into deep bowls
Both. I skated in the 80s, quit for 20 years and took it up again a few years back. Usually ride a Carver in the skateparks when I can't surf - it's the closest substitute for surfing IMO. If you live in Galveston you should go check out the new skatepark in Spring. It is Carver heaven.
Hey y'all. Thanks for the feedback. 10 gal of grandma milk... I think that's an endorsement... LOL I guess there's lots more "legal" places to skate now than in the 70s. Don't think we had skate parks. Seem to recall spending lots of time either getting the stink eye, or actually being chased away from whatever fun places we could find to skate. So they got a park in "Sprang?" That's kinda far for me, but got that info stashed for later. We have a small park in Galveston too. Any downhill / longboarders here? My son in ATL is into that, with all the hills there. Those guys can haul ass on some of those big hills.
I mostly surf, skate very little. I used to surf slightly less and skate slightly more when I was a bit younger. When I say skate I mean either cruising on a longboard or bombing this one big road by me. The roads actually pretty sick. It's mostly flat around here (street wise). But this one road in a hilly area is pretty steep at the top, and it's loooong so when it flattens out a bit you still have some insane speed going. It's a big long road with little cul-de-sacs branching off. You can straight bomb it or you can use the cul-de-sacs a little banks to do slides on and shiz. And the whole little circuit of streets in that neighbourhood is it's own little quiet area so there's almost never cars to deal with. Really fun. Now I want to skate
^^^Pretty much this...I also do what I call Siberian Sidewalk Surfing, where I have Phin pull me on the long rope. I thought i knew how strong he was until I started this. No hills necessary Also, I like polls. They're fun.
Used to skate a good bit in the 70's and 80's (street , bowls, ramps) but it's been a long time since. Son got a skateboard for Xmas this year and I felt like a total kook on it. The concrete feels a whole lot harder these days!
I have two longboards, a Blank and a Sector Nine. Bomb some hills now and then but I'm 50 plus now and LazyE is correct. Concrete hurts... I should start skating around CB some; it's flat, but still has that effing concrete...
Surf mostly now but still get down on the good old drunken mini ramp or bowl sesh. Ever since my slipped disk in my back it has made big tricks like treflip rocks a little difficult and painful. Heres an edit from two summers ago me and my boys ****ing around all hammered when we were lil college punks.
a slightly more political version...
