"Sometimes, we get a peek behind the curtain and see some things that just can't be unseen.

Katharine, a 14ft+, 2300lb female Great White, pinged her location from inside of Oregon Inlet in the Pamlico Sound of North Carolina on Friday night. The deepest point in the Sound is 26ft with much of the estuary around 15ft of depth with very shallow flats along the periphery."

Oh Boi ! we have her pass us by once a year Sebastian inlet fl. I know it's a different depth but that's pretty cool stuff.

Sometimes I wish Ocearch didn't exist...

Like when I surfed the inlet to later find out Septima was most likely just hundreds of yards from where I was surfing...

Ditto, young Hawk. I realize, and accept, that they're all around me when I'm in the ocean but I'd really rather not be presented with the pinging visuals of Ocearch.

    Wow dude that's crazy!

They are probably all around when we are out there... Try not to think too much about it haha...

Thankful that Belmar has shark nets...

Thanks for the post Yankee - that ocearch is a sweet site, but agree would rather not see lol

She's back down South! I remember posting back in September how she was floating around NY in between Jones and Moses. Next day she was headed north on her way to the Cape. Guess it's too cold for her now!

I did a snorkel trip in the Bahamas where I was surrounded by black tip reef sharks. It was very cool at the time, but I don't know if I would do it again. I actually had to put my fins up to guide sharks a little further away from me. Not that they were coming after me, but they were a little too close for comfort. Ha ha ha. 1 foot vs. 2 foot

Yeah, I try not to think about it.

Thats another reason I like to surf with a friend(as opposed to a crowded lineup, or alone). Helps me forget about it.

A few years ago, I remember seeing another monster great white "Mary Lee" I think, had pinged right off Ocracoke and then actually inside the sound.. If memory serves, it was also in the winter.

Something to consider here is: of ALL the sharks out there, the few that they've actually managed to catch and tag and track have been cruising the coast and lurking around the places we surf. So it stands to reason that there are likely many MANY more very large, toothy fishes that haven't been tagged that are currently lurking in the vicinity..

...so you know that feeling, when you're out there alone.. your buddy's have all gone in.. it's getting dark and suddenly all the hairs on your body stand up.. you don't see anything. but you could swear you can sense he's right out there......

i posted this before but what the heck:

and then, with nary a swell in sight, the ocean under me gently rises and then sets back down.
    uh-oh.

I guess seals hang in that inlet? I had a seal fishing with me late this fall. I was about 1/2 mile off the beach on a soft top, snagging, and live lining bunker. It was cool, but maybe not, when you consider whitey.

Where's the default "sharks live in the ocean" response? I like the updates, and stories because "ignorance is bliss" won't serve me well. Thanks for posting Yank.

I like seeing where they are. Shows they are cruising right past the breakers and have been for millennia. Yet when's the last time anyone heard of a GW attack on the EC? To me lends credence to the theory that they don't give a rats a$$ about us and don't go into hunt mode unless there are pinnipeds around.

I hear people (non-surfers) at the beach say "I wish the water was clear" and I think, "no, you don't, you'd never go back in". I'd love it if the water was clear and I could see what was out there.

Now the bulls and tigers are another matter. If I see one of them I'm out. You fellas down at HHI are at ground zero.

2 summers ago in Cape Cod... There will be more attacks there due to the seal population and how the sharks are hunting them in shallow water.
