i DO tell myself its the greatest thing ever. i WISH i could find somethin that goes better.
Atlantico junior member its ok to condescend - but, just to see if you are what you say - hows' your experience?
i have 5 winters on the North Shore of Oahu under my belt; how many for you?
and how many boards have you actually been through?

america a free country. its ok - the mentality - to buy 'B' grade boards for 'B' grade talent. but others like
myself look harder at the issue.

Well...$200 for materials...in bulk it may even be a less. However, licensing to Lost, Tomo, etc., employees, warehouse space, manufacturing tech. (e.g., shaping machines, vacuum bags, planers, etc.), shipping materials, advertising, returns, etc. I am sure the list goes on...I wonder what the profit margin really is on a surfboard for a major brand...say Channel Islands vs. Firewire. They probably make their money through bulk sales rather than individual boards. So to say the profit is $700...well...that is hard to believe...

Yeah. Sold on the hype here.
I'm old enough to know what kind of board I like. Ever read an independent review of this shape? I'm sure there is more than one person on this forum who will attest to the performance of this board. Educate yo-self fool. Plus, I own a couple locally shaped craigslist specials that I happen to really enjoy riding. Been doing this sh** for years man, I appreciate all kinds of designs.

There is now way major companies like that are spending $200 on material for each board...those are major corps were talking...if that were true there would be absolutely no profit margin for the company after adding in labor alone...I'd be willing to bet they are buying in bulk and material cost is $75 or less...

I'm sure they make more profit on the clothing line than the boards. Hence the sell of the surfer lifestyle. I know guys that make boards on a small scale and they ain't makin' much on it.

Just buy boards made on your coast. Lost and Channel Islands are great board companies but just cuz you have one doesnt mean you will rip like Andino or Renolds. I had a motorboat 2 and I just got a WRV generator , The WRV is soooo much better that the CI MB2. Oh yeah the WRV cost me $499 out the door.

I think that is wayyyy to much for a new board (900), specially considering that you could easily go through a board in a year if you don't take good care of it. Crazy... I don't even like looking at new boards in shops since I know I won't buy one new...

Haven't bought a new board since the Clark foam fiasco http://www.infinitysurf.com/2010/steves-stories/the-clark-foam-fiasco/ before that I would buy 2 new ones a year!

Now I'm a full time used board lurker... You know... Surfshop used racks, craigslist...once in a while you find the perfect board for the right price...

Idk... I guess I'm cheap, but I wouldn't spend 1k on a new board only to have a summer pro drop in on me and ding it the first time out...

I would however buy a custom board from a local shaper- like say GREENLIGHT SURFSHOP

Im a full time local shape buyer. I see a board I want and my budy makes it as close as he can. I pay half the price, and get nearly the same shape, no big deal

$720 for a ...lost or CI that's finished off by some random "shaper" with cheap materials for the best profit margin. No thank you, my board last more than 4 months.

Good point, just cause it's got the name doesn't mean it's shaped by anyone

for $900 I can make two boards and buy every hooker on norfolk's backpage. Might even have some money left for cat adoption fees. Don't be a sucker.

I got suckered. From the looks of the picture garbanzo posted with that Ron John sticker on the v3 .I wouldn't have given it a second look. That being said I can say I really do like the new board. 700 bucks is steep.but I guess other people's reviews swayed my decision.

Hire your local shaper. I'm sure that he/she would be happy to crank out a masterpiece for cheaper that any standard computer shaped surfing board. I would.

Don't kid yourself. I was in a shop yesterday that was full of doznes of computer shaped standard poly boards (built overseas) for $350 - $399 on the rack in all lenths from 5'10" to 8'0"

Your local shaper cant stay in business cranking out masterpieces for $350, nor should you expect them to. You get what you pay for and that includes locally shaped boards.
