By your own admission you give away surf gear to kiddies to entice them to hayzeus effing keeeerist, freak. And you post your waynetheinsaaaaane morning mumblings on youboobtube. Conclusion: you're no different from the very poseurs whom you criticize.

it comes up in New Age circles but there is scientific observation to back this up.

this is nothing new though since ancient cultures have known of the powerful healing and grounding properties of the five elements: earth, wind, fire, water, ether. as exemplified in the Kabbalah Tree Of Life and the Chakra system to name a couple as in all Pagan beliefs. and lest not forget all organized religions come from so-called Pagan beliefs.

I wonder what affect the Middle Passage had on how Santeria practitioners relate to the ocean.

Do the Yoruba think of the ocean differently than people in the New World?

Hey SBX - it sounds like you saw some santeria offerings. I have some shaman friends and they've encouraged me to leave offerings to Olokun, the sea spirit, at the shoreline for protection in the water. You might also see offerings to Legba. I've studied some of this stuff myself and you'll find that the saints correspond with gods and spirits from religions that chiristians have conquered. For example, the santeria god Gran Bois (god of the forest) is depicted as St. Sebastian in christian religions.

Julia, the chicken was definitely Santeria, the water jugs I guess were Santeria just based on the fact that the folks who requested them spoke Caribbean accented Spanish, the fruit, maybe? I think I've heard it's South Asian people leaving it, but I'm not sure.

I used to have a job that brought me into contact with Santeria offerings pretty regularly. It was always kind of weird because in the context they basically amounted to litter, but must have been important to the people who placed them. Usually if they were inconspicuous I left them. If there was money, though, I took it.

These offerings at the water's edge sound like more trash on the beach to me. Can't these people just litter like real 'murricans, and not make a religion out of it?

Wayne, this is God speaking. You need to knock it off.
