Decided to try to keep track of the sessions this year just to do it. Meant to post a few weeks ago in case any one else was into the idea. It's not too late to start. Anybody successfully kept track for a full year before?

where can I get my hands on a chart/book like that?!?!
I realize the SC tides are gonna be a leeetle different but it'd make a convenient surf journal!

I think about this subject all the time. it's amazing when I'm paddling back out and can't even remember what I just did on the last wave, or what it looked like. and yet I've got a few sessions on lock down in the memory bank.

I have journals from every surf trip I have taken over the years and it its cool to look back on. Great subject. I think World has the right idea. I'd like to know how you got the booklet too. I see where you can print off a tide chart but how about the booklet?

I imagine if we live long enough to where we can't surf any longer (who wants to think about that...I know), it would be great to look back on a whole year in your surfing life. I remember reading an article in Surfer's Journal last year on some legendary guy (can't remember his name) who did it for decades.

I always made basic notes in my Week-At-A-Glance. But, that's limited esp when I'd look back at a sesh for info. I looked around for something more efficient, and convenient.

So, I purchased this (below). It's pretty good, not only for the capacity to keep info in re your surf sessions but also the atlas & other info. Small enough to tote around in your carry-on if you're traveling. Less than $15.00 on AMZN. As worldb notes, it's fun to be able to go back & recall the info from all one's surf sessions.

i started to write down every session since july 13th. i also record which board i rode in addition to whatever else i remembered to write down. after surfing in oceanside, ca this morning, i've logged 147 sessions. looking back on it as i write this, i used to be very descriptive and now not so much now.

My friend's kid is turning 14 in a couple weeks, and he is starting to shred. He's already built 3 boards in the last two years. This wavelog stuff would be a great gift for any grom. I used to do a wave journal when I was 20. It was when I was starting to ride real good surf. I only kept it up for a few months, but looking back, it would have been really cool to chronicle the waves and the times for a longer duration. From a scientific point of view, for wave and weather patterns, from a social viewpoint, on growing up experiencing the surfing lifestyle, and how it has changed. Nice to have a snapshot of a given place in time, especially when enjoying the awesome sport/art/life of waveriding.

I do this to a minimal extent. It's a carry-over from when I used running and workout logs
Mostly it's to note that I went out, date/time, location, air & water temps, change to/from wetsuit, boots, etc., board change, and anything out of the ordinary. I use just a simple pocket calendar/planner I get each year from DAV.

Logged 157 sessions the year before last and 167 sessions last year. But since mid-November, I haven't been out much at all due to out of town travel, the flu which I caught from my recent travels (planes and airports are loaded with sick people now), a near-blind Mom, and a Dad who broke his hip last week. Both in their mid-80s. But life happens. I'll get back to the water when I can.

Keep a log in the Evernote app on my phone. Logged the last three years. Great to look back on during winter flat spells.

    much thanks World, DonQ, yank!

    these are great!
ten more sessions a year is certainly an improvement! that right there is a perfect example of a stat that you just couldn't come up with, without a journal like this.
prayers to the parents Dos. the ocean seems to reward selflessness of this regard.
I hope your future journal entries reflect that!
