Bros.. do I go with the Oneil heat 6/5/4 or the mutant 5/4/3? I don't care about the detachable hood for a winter suit. My 4/3 is not cutting it anymore. I like the extra neoprene with the 6 but am worried its not as flexy (it is cheaper) as the mutant. Help! Thanks, Chris
I have a mutant 4-3, was great for a while but it flushes more with detachable hood. Id go permanent hood if given choice.
I agree about the hood with a wetsuite I have a 4/3 and a 6/5 Wear the 4/3 for most the time. Just wear the 6 from mid jan to end of feb. I don't notice much difference in flex/weight although there is a little. But when I'm out and warm- and other guys cold- I'm stoked in the 6
I have 2 Oneills, both Psycho !!. Never again--there are wetsuits that are much better, imho. Having said that, buy the one that fits you best. Fit is king.
Built in hood is the way to go. That's the ones I got before I got a pooswah, and after I could afford a new suite, Pull the draw string tight and come out with a dry head. Plus, if air temp is warm, it's easliy pulled back.
I have a Heat 6/5/4, it's great. I think it's right in the sweet spot between flexibility and durability.
Forget the Oneill. I had a 6/5 oneill and dropped it for a lighter and warmer xcel 5/4. Huge difference. If you really can't stand the cold and you live in Maine I can understand a 6/5.
Also I have had a rip curl ebomb 5.5\4.5 the last year and its great. Step below fbomb but I've had no complaints. If you search online you can find last year's models for 150$ less. When water is 38 and air below freezing, that 4-3 mutant may not be the best.
5.5/4. ... Best winter suit I have ever had. Super warm and more flexible than my old 4/3. Only had it 1 year, so can't vouch for its longevity, but so far its fared better than my xcel
5.5\4 what? What brand, model. My ebomb is tearing at wrists but with new 7mil drylock boots and mittens, (im in love with drylock boots and gloves, ill never get anything else). If I had an extra 550$ I'd buy the suite in a heartbeat.
I feel the same way about drylock boots and gloves. Just got new 7's today. Not a fan of their suites though. They just don't fit me.
i used oneill for many years as my winter suite . Switched to the BG vapor X now, but the phyco 2 654 kept me warm many winters , still have it as a backup . As for the mutant and the heat , i can't say much on them never used them . If its just winter suite , get the hood attached . Find that right size , fit and price range , you will be stoked . you can alway put a spring suit underneath for more warmth .
