I get keeping it in your pants and not being excited until you see it. I'm with you there. But here's the thing, no one said anything about being super hyped. No one said it would be the swell of the century. Hell, no one said they expected it to be exactly as forecasted. Yet negativity and talk of it being flat/false forecasts came rolling in. But now you guys agree and have fingers crossed. Maybe I'm missing something
People commonly say things like "it's going to be so good", "I'm going to spot x", "I'm riding board y" and "I can't wait" like it's just going to happen no matter what. It's just silly. Thread title "Holy f*cking Tuesday" on the Thursday before is a tad bit hyper and overly excited about something so unclear. As MIS stated, this type of unwarranted excitement typically comes from the inexperienced. Be ready for what MAY happen, but don't put all your eggs in one basket. Pay attention, know your winds, know your breaks, wait patiently with NO expectation, take some deep breaths, and f*cking relax. Weather doesn't care what the forecast says, it's fluid, and changes often. A non surfer can tell you that. "It was supposed to be sunny today, wtf?", "the wind is supposed to be offshore right now wtf?", sound familiar? It should, and it could demonstrate a valuable lesson to the swell hypers. "Learn it, live it, know it." (Fast Times). Or carry on like you have an IQ of 50 (not you bassmon).
Well said. But nothing wrong with getting hype for a potential swell, however, a whole week out is just axing for a skunking. I check the forecast every day a few times a day to keep an eye on the trend but like you said, nothing is guaranteed. Know your breaks and what conditions work them and you can make your own educated guess. I love going on days nobody else thinks will be good and end up scoring. Those are the best.

NH will have 30 to 53 mph winds from the Northeast, if MSW is correct. No place to hide with that. One thing for sure, once that storm heads East, Portugal shores or Belharra will be the place to go.
msw has never forecast east coast break right once. it will be 5 foot here and it will say flat. swellinfo will say 3-4 it will be 2ft. my rule of thumb if the swell is going to be 5ft its really going to be 3ft.
Right? This is what fueled my rant earlier in this thread. Guys saying it's going to be flat and that forecast sites inflate this stuff. I'm not saying it's going to be good, but its deffinitly safe to say it's not going to be flat and that this wasn't just SI trying to get more clicks. Supposed to be a historic storm.
