Just had my comp leash snap a few sessions ago, used my regular leash for he last swell and obviously noticed a difference but happy with it in larger surf. Again, bought a new comp...my buddy thinks I'm nuts using them on the EC as I use them even when it's overhead...never really had an issue...thoughts?

Most of you using comp or just regular thickness...for example, I'm partial to creatures comp leashes...nt., pic below...

    I never use comp leashes.

    I use bungee cords.

1 for small, 2 for head, 3 for bigger.

You just need ninja reflexes to use them or you'll lose teeth.

I always like just the reg kind... I guess I'm just use to that.. Broke a few comp leashes but also broke reg 1/4" leashes. Idk it's all the same - it's just if they are old and worn out is when you run into problems.

Although if it's over head- and I get worked- I will be happy for the reg leash lol a few times I remember feeling the comp leash get stretched while under water.. Think I guess this is it, I'm in for a swim.

I really think leashes really aide in safety of other surfers more so then having to swim to shore. So possibly experience level would play a part on leash selection. If one of those guys who thinks he doesn't need a leash, then get a comp. if your new and fall a lot - get a reg. no one wants to be in the situation of paddling out with a board flying 100 mph at them...

    my thoughts are to keep
me and my leash in one piece.

comp leashes have done me dirty, bit too much elasticity and they snap easily

I always used comp leashes and never had an issue... Until I did.

Snapped on a big drifty day. Got housed for about 30 minutes and drifted almost a mile. Been using reg since.
    I like Creatures best too

Dakine 8ft leash. Never have to worry about it, although the part that wraps around your ankle has taken a bit of a beating. Like the extra length to keep my board the f away from me when I need it to be.

Comp leash on my daily rider. I did use a reg the other day when it was pumping double over. But i also rode my 7'0. First time in 2(ish) years. That was fun.

I get the heaviest leashes I can. I ride long boards in big surf and take horrible beat-downs. (from the waves...) It is a good thing to not have to swim after a board or to be able to climb your way to the surface if need be. Used to get Da Kine kanui 5/16 inch x 10 foot but their quality has decreased since they switched urethane suppliers, now I get leashes custom made from Crow Haley. Typically I use leashes for the first time on trips then into really heavy conditions at home. As they get degraded (stretched or just aged out) I use them in decreasingly challenging conditions. If I am going to wear a leash I want it to hold...

I tried the Ebay company, Dorsal, so far it's held up well for the price.
