Bro, you just called me a kook in a different thread for no good reason... ironic you start this thread up... not trying to start a fight, or a virtual caps lock battle that will never matter IRL, just saying it's ironic.
Never been called a kook, but this one time, at Windan... I dropped in first goin left, other guy stands up after me, about 30 feet north, swings a rather nice wrap and comes right at me. Body slammed me. We come up tangled and he's kicking me and trying to get a punch off. He just kept yelling "who the F are you!?" like over and over. I honestly didn't know what to do. I'm not a fighter, and the water isn;t a spot i want to try to learn. Anyway I get my leash off and distance my self - He's still yellin "Who the F are you, Who the F are you!?" Proceeds to put three fins through my board and sends me in. It was 6AM and my first wave. Only two other guys out besides us...
no i didnt man you where just hating on half the people on the forum and i had to defend them and i didnt call you a kook, how do you know was referencing to those words and not something else. see man i defend these people on the info brah. you called it a aggro fest and its a forum filled with thousands of years of surf knowledge and you just bashed half the people. we got hardcore shreders here and even kelly slater is he a kook? @ scob what did the other guys do? im sorry that happened if i was one of the others i would of told the other dude off accidents happen you probably didnt even see the dude unless you did it on purpose. then
Damn dude that sucks, but sh*t, stand up for yourself next time! I know it caught you off guard but can't go out like that. No way.
Take a dump on the dude's front porch. Need an "anger ally"?
Im pretty mellow on here, but something like this would have set me off. I'm not saying I'm a fighter, I'm not saying I'm a bada$$, but I tend to have some anger issues. He was wrong and I would have let him know. Sorry that happened bro, there are some a holes out there!
When every you are called a kook, only if its not deserved, paddle back out , get the wave of the sesh throw tail in the dudes face then finish up with a sick punt 9 demand respect through your surfing .... Words and violence should never be needed. Now if you deserve the comment GO HOME and dont come back till you understand what you did wrong and never do it again!!!!!!!!!!
Brad.... Words and violence should never be needed.... Well, if you paddle back out and throw tail in the dudes face, it might ignite the already anger. Just sayin
The first year I surfed, during the neolithic era, some guy told me to "Go back to Miami!". I said, "I'm from here, not Miami", and he got pissed and stormed off (I must have been too young for him to actually beat me up). My buddy said I was given the ultimate insult, and if he were me, a fight would have ensued. I was so clueless, it was another full year of surfing before the impact of his derision sank in. I have never seen him again, but his words still haunt me.
I haven't been called a kook, but I've called other people kooks...because they dropped in on me. It's one thing to have some hot local drop in on you, but to have someone with no coordination drop in is extremely aggravating. I really hate it when beginners paddle out at the best spots. Go learn somewhere else!
Blasters cool thread, I hope its long and full of cool stories Im sure Ive been called a kook a thousand times, only remember hearing it once though. People have a tendency to talk sh!t to me under their breath. Don't know why either I look like Jonah Hill, im a freakin walkin marshmallow Last fall I'm in Jersey at the and of a popular jetty. The surf is so good, it was that one windswell that came between two of the groundswells we got that was probably better than both. Its crowded but not as bad as it should be at that spot cuz its a weekday early afternoon. The pack at the end of the jetty is mostly familiar faces, all guys who can surf with a few unknowns who are ripping and being super respectful..vibe is pretty much awesome. Every time a new dude comes paddling out he's cheesing and sayin "what's up, looks so fun", then waits for his turn... And then... Here comes the SUP rowing out into the lineup. Most of us know him, he's been longboarding the area for a long ass time. He captains this vessel all the way from the north jetty, past everyone sitting on the south jetty waiting, theres a wave everyone can see coming, as the 4 or 5 closest to the jetty start to jockey for position he rows out a little further and gets deeper than them and takes off... Well I was like f that, no way this guy is paddling around everyone and taking the first wave. There was probably like 6 or 7 surfers between where he took off and where I was, soon as I knew none of them were goin to do it I did... I two stroke paddled in to that beast, went straight jumping off my board spread eagle screaming "NO DUDE NO". We both went down and got housed, wore the rest of the set on our heads too. When he caught his breath he yelled "You fu(k!n Kook, watch where you're going". I laughed and told him I did watch where I was going. He hung around for a little longer, dropped in on some people, got dropped in on, then rowed south to another Jetty. If you're not a kook you shouldn't care and I think calling someone a kook is lame.
Only been called a kook once so far (to my face). Accidentally dropped in on someone.. dude paddles back out next to his buddy and proceeds to call me a kook. I laughed and said sorry. Later on I am in position for a wave, drop in and a few feet down the line I see dude paddling for my wave. He drops in and we were riding the wave together.. he refused to turn around as I said things like "Hey.. yooo... brooooo" lol. I finally kick off and let him have the wave. When he paddled back out past me he looked at me and I just said "tie game".. but nothing else happened after that.. Kill'em with kindness.
Alright, you're right. btw, I wasn't reffering to half the people on SI, just half the people that replied to that tread. and yes, I was wrong to have referenced to "half the people" on that tread when in reality it was only one that was acting like an a-hole to a newcomer. no hard feelings.
