Product looks pretty sick, a lot of good feedback. Anyone have any? usually get water stuck in the ear every other session and have one or two heavy falls right on the ear so I think they would be a good investment. Seems almost all the pacific surfers wear these not sure why and not many seem to be worn on the east coast. Also not sure about the water temperatures these are used in
I vaguely recall an old post on this same topic and remember that this product received good reviews. I didn't think much about them until I made a recent doctor's visit and noticed him spending a bit more time looking in my ears. He then asked me if I was a surfer. He followed that up with "you have what's commonly referred to as Surfer's Ear". Ughhh. He didn't recommend surgery at this time unless it really starts to bother me. I've read that the surgery is pretty painful. Over the past 3-5 years, each time I surfed or went swimming I'd always have water stuck in my right ear. I live in NJ and have been surfing for 25 years. 10 of those years were spring/summer/fall surfs and the last 15 included winter surfing. My understanding is that the colder water temperature plays a big roll in the progression of surfer's ear. Now that my doctor alerted me to this I've definitely noticed occassional "popping" in my ears and find myself sticking my finger in my ears because they feel "itchy". Needless to say, I don't want this to progress further so I am planning to purchase this particular product. I'm not trying to preach or anything, but it may me a wise choice to purchase some kind of plug for your ears. This is a very avoidable issue for very little investment. As far as these products go, I'm skeptical as to how they won't fall out when not wearing a hood. I don't mind spending the cash for one pair but I don't want to keep buying them after every surf. Anyone with some info/suggestions?
I typed "surfer's ear" in the search bar and found the post started by SI Admin back in March. The thread title is...New Ear Plugs - YES.
use the wax plugs in the blue box; about $4. they are form fitting. supplement w/the "auro-dry" type drops swimmers use (after you get out). two things to be aware of: 1) a hood can make this issue worse; not sure exactly why. 2) EAR WAX BUILD-UP is an issue that needs to be addressed before even considering surgery.
i have them. ive tried many other products and these are the best out there. they work - they allow you to hear while keeping the water out and they stay in place. i just got back from PR and surfed every day for the past 6 days. For the most part my ears are pretty free of water. i did get flushed a little bit, but it was also double overhead one day. well worth the investment in my opinion. ive had since the summer and have not had one come close to falling out. i was also skeptical at first about them staying in place, but they do. they give you a couple sizes in the package, so just fit it to your ear and you should be fine.

I use Docs Pro Plugs in winter. I have had the same pair for 5 years...They work good. I have the vented ones with a tiny hole and you can hear pretty well even with the hood one I have surfers ear pretty bad on one side..it sucks. You are crazy if you aren't surfing with plugs in winter in the north east. I see dudes out with no hood sometimes, etc...That cold water destroys your ears over time. By the time you start to notice it, it's too late.
