The damage to the pier is only to the very end. It will be fixed or just shortened up a bit. A couple years ago I was down there for the 2012 Black Friday swell and was staying just down the beach from the Avon Pier and got to see the end of that pier taken off after being battered for 4 days in a row. They had the pier fixed by summer. Heaviest week of surf I've ever seen. South side was bombing and offshore every day for a week with only a few takers a couple days with the stand-outs towing in. Saw Fisher Heverly get the heaviest and longest tube ride I've ever seen. On Black Friday, Lighthouse finally cleaned up and was huuuuge. Shot I snapped at Lighthouse on Black Friday.
From the pics I have seen it's not just the end and shoring it up will not make it pass the building inspector. The remainder of the pier is warped and the pylons are twisted. I would venture to say it will need extensive repairs and should probably be rebuilt entirely.
Avon Pier was actually in far worse shape after the 2012 NorEaster and Hurricane Sandy and they put it back together. I'm sure this pier will be ready to go for summer.
Yeah but didn't Avon have insurance? Don't think they will get enough from Go Fund Me to get the job done.
