hey yall what do you think the meaning of life is? lets get all introspective, we are all surfers here right? we should examine the meaning of surfing and life and the combination of both. have you ever been called crazy surfing during winter time in degree minus weather..while the person that says that is walking in that weather for no good reason. seems a lot of us on the ea st coast dont get waves often but live our life by it? so does surfing=life? does surfing save people? (wayne no jesus stuff) what does this all mean? hey to all the non surfers on the east coast were not real surfers because we dont live in califorina....

    The meaning of life is.....

Learning the opposite of paradise. You wouldn't understand the afterlife until you lived the before life.

Going through personal self-discovery and overcoming challenges....

    Getting high.

I think surfing saved Kellys life - he came from the surf ghetto of Cocoa Beach - broken family - he could have opened the wrong door - the one with all the drugs behind it.

I've personally seen surfing and the waterlife give reason and hope and focus to one of my friends who needed it.

I think surfing has caught me from going off the deep end. I'll be forever grateful.

u ever read slaters book, the one with the blue cover, small paperback?im not too certain he came from a surf ghetto but its an exciting book, like he talks about his father was an alcoholic, boo hoo whos father isn't an alcoholic?he knew how to dismantle a gun at age 7,got semi-arrested with the family going to the space place base with guns lol.and his mom said if u want to smoke pot do it with me so that's why hes straight edge.hes just one of those weirdos who excelled astronomically at surfing lol.

anyway lol,to me life is about having fun and enjoying yourself.if u like surfing,do it.if u like hookers,do em.my life is groundhog day everyday, same shyt same story, not much excitement.i work, come home smoke a spliff,go on the internet to see what u fine folks are up to and watch tv.repeat.

my problem is im a master procrastinator, always putting shyt off because im too lazy.with surfing,if I don't go directly to the beach from my job and come home first,i will not go surfing.same thing with everything,if I don't gas up my car on my way home im not doing it.i bust my azz at work, its not that im lazy lol im tired.

also im a certified burnout.meaning I don't do anything sober.im not the one who smokes and starts laughing and eating,u could never tell the difference between a sober me and a high me lol.I smoke before everything, surfing, going out, going to a concert,at the concert,on my way home from the concert.i actually smoke and read books.il smoke before I go jogging.it doesn't slow me down.and im not one to hide my stonerness, family, boss, friends, its no surprise.only problem I seem to have is my brother always shows up unannounced with the kids while im smoking.

when u get older and see friends die, people u hang with everyday, not from od's or murders but freak shyt like a brain aneurysm,i still don't even know wtf that is but one of my best friends died from one 4 years ago.he was young too ,mid 30s,excellant shape,i was at his house 2 days before he died.he was out of work for a week and the boss came up and said yea hes dead.just like that,no sugarcoating it,the boss said "hes dead."

makes u appreciate life and what u have!!!

The eternal question... asked in every culture, since we started walking on two legs. Begs the question: does it have an answer? I'm no Buddhist, or whatever, but maybe they have it right... that life has no meaning. It does, however, have purpose. For them, the purpose of life is to end suffering.

I have tried to kind of take it from that perspective, by believing that the meaning of life is to find peace within yourself, and your place in the world. Not so much to end other people's suffering (although it might be), but to end your own. You could live your whole life wanting, wanting, wanting... chasing... comparing yourself to other people, wishing... or worse, trying... to be something you're not. Looking around and seeing the ugliness, the sadness, the unfairness of the world... and there's a lot of it to see. It sounds kind of cliche, but there's an elusive "inner peace" in all of us, that some people are closer to than others.

Putting surfing into that picture... I think surfing brings all of us a little closer to that place. But surfing is such a small thing in the bigger context of your life. There's so much more that can bring you closer to being at peace with yourself. For me, a lot of it is linked to other things I do outdoors, and to kids... my own (I have three), and as an educator, to the endless stream of young lives that move through mine on their way to adulthood. But for others, it's likely much different.

I believe our lives are largely what we make them. Our physical world and physical bodies set the boundaries, but those boundaries are very wide, and we can shift our life experiences anywhere within them. Find your niche... the place that gives you peace. And don't take things... especially surfing... too seriously. There's way more to life than riding waves.

Mr LBC I am truly crystallized from your thoughts on the meaning of life..
I read a book once..I never really got "into reading"..A Journey in Ladakh:Encounters with Buddhism which was given to me by a Philosophy teacher..
I read the book by candle light and the smell of burning frankincense over the course of a week..Those Tibetan people are quite admirable..worth learning something from..I mean some group of people have been invading and conquering Tibet since the Mongols..
You know it's cool to be dedicated to a craft..but let's all be honest this is the EC..if the only passion you have in life is surfing your probably a pretty miserable person..

Once you start breaking things down, from a Scientific aspect, you get to molecules and atoms that make up Everything. Break THOSE down as far as you can and you are left with Energy...vibrating at a frequency.
    The Point?
It's what makes up Everything. Me. You. Everyone. Your board. House. Stars. Planets. EVERYthing.
    The Real Point?
We're all Connected. Everything we do, actions, words, but More importantly- thoughts and emotions, emits a Frequency that resonates Out and shapes your World. Your happiness is literally My happiness. Everything is Connected. This isn't me being a hippy dippy trippy Meditation Teacher right now. This is me being a Spiritual Scientist.
All the greats Einstein, Tesla, DaVinci, ALL knew this. Look deep into their work and you'll see it. It's irrefutable.
As far as Surfing goes? Your a being made of vibrating Energy riding an invisible band of Energy that started as a solar wind(wave) and is Now moving through a Vast giant Living liquid source(Ocean). The very act is cosmic in itself and you can't get more Connected or Present than when you're up and Surfing.
People think, hell even most surfers think, we keep getting pulled out there strictly for the simple thrill or exhilaration of wave riding, when there is So much more to it than that.
That's my take. Check this out. I posted it before and it should resonate with everyone here.

    Be well. Surf often.

Even Einstein wanted to know what life was all about. At times he thought he was a loser and got depressed.
