Disclaimer - sorry for wasting 8 minutes of your life. Almost feel bad for this guy, he thinks 4 foot waves are 10 to 15 feet.
What the hell, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and call it a little overhead since gopros make everything look small: 6-7 feet on the sets maybe? Especially since someone broke a board, although that could have happened with a flat landing in small surf too. If someone tells him not to ditch his board and not to turtle roll parallel to the wave, he'll be allright. "A" for effort, "F" for technique and etiquette. He seems like a funny guy, though. Give him a beer and listen to his stories. Entertainment value if nothing else.
Lol, nothing better after a near death experience in the surf than proning safely to shore at the end. Had a few of them in my life and love that ride to safety. I could picture him sitting on the beach after that and assessing things a bit better before a second go where he makes it out finally and and finally nails a shoulder.
I'll admit, I've been there, too. CA used to work me for the first couple of days because the waves break so much further out. This dude really looks like he needs some cardio work, but yes, A for effort
I wouldn't call it a 'near death' experience, but we all get excited after getting worked beyond our limits. Dude definitely took some big ones on the head. Saddest part of it all is that his prone ride may be longer than anything I've snagged this winter.
Obviously a newb, so I can't really bag on him much. Actually, surf looked pretty good with a bit of size IMHO...hard to tell with a GoPro, but I'll guess about 6 foot. He looks totally winded LOL. 2 things really bugged me though: 1) The constant board bailing. I'm glad I wasn't paddling behind him, I'd be pissed. 2) Why is something this weak being posted on YouTube? Pretty lame.
What's up Gaff! They didn't seem that big because his hold downs were really quick, I could be wrong though. Now the waves in the vid you shared are huge
i too wondered why he seemed to be paddling parralel to the waves..well he got a good workout,,other than bailing from his board i;m sure i would look simliar to this guy first few sessions this spring :\
