Firewire Surfboards

i have been riding a firewire for about two years now and am still happy with it, it has held up really well.

 

I have a Firewire 5'6" Fish. Super light and floaty. They have great flex. It took a reef hit in Barbados and all that happened was a scrap. Super strong but not indestructible. I would get another.

 

liquid has one cheap i think 399?

 

This was was my take from another thread on a PU or Epoxy debate...Check out Firewire Surfboards. You kinda get the best of both worlds with a stringerless EPS blank thats vacuum bagged in a epoxy shell and that has parabolic balsa rails. Besides being super durable the flex is amazing. What sold me was the guy at the shop flipped upside down, stepped on it and pressed it to the floor.Try that with a poly and you'll have broken or flex cracked board. I bought a 6'6" tri but they have a full line of shapes. I gave mine a good workout in Nicaragua and the spring and snaps out of turns was amazing. I have plenty of poly boards and love them but I think the Firewires are making the best new technology style boards. Good luck!

 

ive had two firewires one was a 6 0 alternator and the other was a 5 10 alternator, when i had them they were awesome super strong in regards to regular pressure dings, surfed great in all conditions from waist to extreme o.h. surf. but both ended up breaking right where they have the pressurized screw that they say not to mess with. maybe i just got duds but every since then ive been turned off to the new technology of surfboards and have gone back to what works and whats been proving........good ol' poly.

 

First generation Firewire's had a recall. So yeah some of them were dud's.

 

i shouldve clarified, the 6 0 alternator was a first generation but was not among the recall (i think most of the recall was for a delamination problem anyway) and the 5 10 alternator was the second generation. The 6 0 broke clean off on the vent, the first incident with my 2nd gen 5 10 was a buckle on the underside of the board but directly across the vent. was fixed and had it for another winter season until it broke clean off just like my 6 0. ever since i lost two boards and roughly 1400 dollars ive been very skeptical of any new technology. its great that you got surfers like taj riding firewires, but how many boards does he break and get at no cost a year? i just dont feel like its worth it to experiment with brand new technology unless you can afford it, let pros use em and get the product feedback. save you a ton of money, wish i did that.

 

Had 2: The quad fish (still have) is my all time fav board... Works so well in any surf. The other was the shortboard quad. I got that used, and it fealt dead. It looked new at the time, so I don't think it took too long to lose its pop. It seems lots of different people have lots of different experiences with them. I remember someone recently saying the quality has taken a turn for the worse as the factory/ company changed hands/ quality control? (cant confirm this)
