Anyone have one? - What size you ride? Picking up a used one for a good price wanted to get some thoughts on it.
I looked at some new ones and couldn't get into the wings in the tail. I'm not a fan of wings or swallows. What attracts you to the RV? I'm not saying it's not a good shape btw, I never rode one. Do people like it?
I wanted one until I got a custom made. Somebody was saying that they had a couple and broke both.. One on a duck dive...
the "wings" are just to pull in the tail, while keeping a straighter (faster) rail line on the first 3/4 of the board. They're relatively subtle, so I doubt they affect the ride negatively. Other than that, it's just a standard squash tail. The RV and the Puddle Jumper are the evolution of matts passion for designing groveler type boards for the "domesticated" rider. As long as you don't get it too thick, it should perform well...I'd ride one. gotta admit, I wasn't stoked on the weak glass job on my V2 rocket, but my couch potato is glassed heavier - it's taken some pretty hard knocks without much to show for it. If the RV has a little extra weight to it, get it.
Anytime a surfer up here tells me they just snapped a board, my immediate question to them is,"What model ..Lost was it?". They look at me wondering how does he know it was a ...Lost?? Never fails. Glassing sucks. Funny thing is, the glassing is weak for keeping weight down. I can reduce the same weight by going to take a pee.
not all Lost boards are glassed light...but, the super HP models are (rockets and up). Being a hybrid, I don't know where the RV falls in the glassing schedule...only way to tell is to pick one up and check for yourself. One thing's for sure, they're not any worse than Channel Islands glassing.
i busted 3 in a row..(!!!??#$%$#@)...yet i still view them favorably cause obviously some of their models are fine indeed...
That tells me they are a real crappy product, no matter how much you like the shape. Have a local shaper build you one with adequate glassing and strength.
Yall can call the lost boards (& CI) crap but I like to think of them as the 7 ply maple skate decks of surfing. They really ride great for a short time then they turn to mush or crease quickly. You expect that. Then you chuck them to some kook who likes the brand 'cause he has seen them in the media and there is a certain amount of satisfaction in telling the story of how it degraded and that you charge so hard that boards wear out under your feet or you just taco them with your shredding. That kook has a hot sister and the dude that rides 'em fresh doesn't care about money, he'll just buy a new one because all the pro shredder kids ride 'em at trestles. Desire for them is great because they are under the surfers that get in front of the camera well, Matt just has to give 12 to Kolohe a month. Biolas does a great job IMO. All of the Aussie shortboards are just as krispety crunchy as the lost stuff. That RV thing probably rides great in a variety of conditions. Go get her, talk sweet to her, get her a new traction pad & legrope. Next, take her down to the beach and thrash her cat hard- repeatedly in a variety of positions (on the wave). Then of course kick her to the curb and talk crap about her when she turns to mush and tacos out. Then try the new lost chicken fart- has anyone ridden that one? It looks really fun.
lol. I remember when the 7-plys first came out...did wonders for my skating. However, I actually like a little heavier surfboard for better momentum, etc. To me, the only good thing about these light glass boards are they look like kinda cool battle-worn relics before they mush out...but it hurts resale value. I looked everywhere for the new Lost CF, but couldn't find it
