Some are actually quite smart. Golfers as well.

And how would you know they are stupid anyway? You frequently mention that you don't know anything about "pro's" and you've never been interested in "pro" surfing.
Yet you have met EVERY one of them and had a long enough conversation to properly measure their intelligence.

You are jumping to conclusions aren't you? I have met a few in years past, never said EVERY; you said that. It doesn't take long to "properly measure their intelligence", as you say.

I'm jumping to conclusions? You said:

"Making a career out of something they love is the ONLY smart thing they do.
Have you ever had a conversation with a "pro" surfer?? They are no different than a pro golfer.
    They know little else."

You learned all that from meeting a few in years past?

A lot of them are. And yes, not all. Numbers?? Who knows--but it must be clear to you that athletes are not exactly knowledgeable persons about anything other than the one sport they spend their time in. They don't think they have to be. A few are very smart, ex, Magic Johnson. What he has done for his community post basketball is awesome. I haven't seen any surfers do anything like that.....yet. Surfing makes most surfers turn inward. Most close off the outside world. Very narcissistic, very limiting.
Anyway, it is just one mans opinion.

Did you purposely misspell the name? If you spell it right, and type it into a search engine backwards....BOOM goes the dynamite. Don't try it on your own computer, do it at work.

think that may have something to do with the lack of money in surfing barry , these pro guys really don't need all the tax write-offs as they don't make what they do in other sports , I mean I guess Kelly tries to give back but then again its all an agenda of sorts hahahah

Wait....why does it even matter if they're smart though? Being dumb & being a jerk - two totally separate things. You don't have to be smart to know better than to act like an a--hole.

Also how do you gauge them as being a "knowledgeable" person? I'm a graphic designer so I'm great with computers & photoshop but I don't know much about medical information or accounting like my friends who are nurses or work in finance. That makes me a moron too then because I'm most knowledgeable in only that one career??

^ agree...that is what I call common sense.

and who gives a rats ass how people make a living...what matters is how they go through life...there are simpletons in every field.

I have talked to pro surfers and most are genuinely nice, fun people. You should not be judging intelligence anyway because you are clearly retarded. Plus lots of surfers are also successful in other areas.

AKA= this is well documented. The contest was at Bell's beach and the transition (to thrusters for Pro Surfers of the time) can almost be pin pointed exactly to that contest (Simon Anderson). Then, most of the surfers followed the trend...for good reason. Surfer's Journal put out a great spread on this very subject.

The late Buttons is another look at the surfboard design change. Also, look at Slater's input over the years...his insight to shorter/wider boards have had a similar impact on the "trendy board design".

I think surfers (pro or not) and shapers together have brought us to where we are today.

BTW, the Priority rule is there for a reason. I hate the way Medina gets all up in his opponents space when they hold priority. Him getting in the way on a critical take off by itself is a fine line on the interference call but he does it on purpose (part of strategy) and got called out on it. Now, he is playing dumb and whining. Great surfer but hard to like (from a spectator's view)...although it seems most of the other Pros like him.
