Heads Up. Make sure you have a parking permit if you go to IR. Sunday I saw about 25 out of 30 cars with $86 parking tickets on the windshield. I got lucky because I talked to the Ranger and got out of it. It was kinda fu<ked up because there was no place to buy a pass that day, so if you got a ticket, I would take it to court. Anyway, just wanted to give everybody a heads up.

I pulled in about 5 mins before the rangers got there. We saw them walking up to all the cars but we left before then came over to us. There was a state cop there two the other parking lot. Sucks for everyone who got a ticket.

Will there ever be a day when you are allowed to drive on the 4 wheel drive beaches to surf? Why must you be fishing? Yet people who "claim" to be fishing leave trash up and down the beach. I know some are respectful, but many are not. I just don't understand why surfers are not allowed to drive on also. Is there a way to get this changed?

This is not the first time I've heard of this. Several occasions last year I saw this happen, and it makes you wonder if they do it on purpose (damn right they do) Just one more way to screw the little guy..........

Just another reason DE sucks. I was yelled at and called back one time at the toll road booth for paying with change which happened to have a canadian nickel in it. The woman threatened me for passing counterfeit money, NO joke!
So now I never spend money on food or gas in DE. Act like an ass, lose revenue.

I wish it was as simple as throwing rods in the truck. we've had rods in the water,(no hooks, just weights), and been told you have to be within 30 feet of you r rods. There was no other people on the beach, all the tourists were gone. The rangers just don't seem to like surfers much. So, we don't even bother driving on anymore, it's not worth the harrassment from the rangers. Nothing ever seems to be said to the groups of people that are drinking and pitching horseshoes well over 30 ft from there rods.

The rangers DO NOT like surfers at all, I had one give me a $45 ticket for sitting about 5 feet up the dune bank (that day there was only 30 feet of beach at low tide) and an elderly man with his grand kid were further up having their picture took:mad, and I asked what about them and he said "well what about them" wrote my ticket and left, and that's only one of many I witnessed from the rangers.:mad

i think that the rangers check to see if you have a line in the water. one solution? - you get a group of friends together, and take turns with one surfer on the beach with the fishing gear, and everyone else out in the surf, or better yet, take one non-surfer to do the fishing, and everybody can get wet - of course, lots of time i go solo, so it wouldn't work for me

Or just say F-it to DE beaches. Can't go anything legal on the beach anymore.

I wanna camp and drink beer all day on the beach.

I'm moving to the Frisco Woods and setting up a camo tent in the bush. Be a hermit. Grow a beard. And scare people. Fish and bodyboard all day. Man oh man.. Ima gonna do it one day here...

You know DE is a f**ked up place the second you drive thru Bethany Beach in thier 35mph zone that should be at least 45mph off season. Those SOB's sit in the median everyday handing out paper to people driving 40 which isn't even close to be unsafe. F'em I don't ever go up there anymore, the waves suck anyway, unless you like slow mushy crap. I'm with you as far as living in a tent on the beach, only it ain't going to be anywhere in the USofA. Indo., sounds a tad bit better to me..............

Wow, I'm not sure if the state or its merchants will ever recover now that you've decided to take your money elsewhere. I hope DE can survive.

Well if enough people do it, the state will notice. Ask some residents and business owners in s jerz about that..

Thats not cool jersey is a million times nicer than DE as far as beaches are concerned, all are state parks are surfer friendly too. Some places you just have to fake fishing to get your trucks on

No that I care, but I think "jersey is a million times nicer than DE as far as beaches is concerned" may be a stretch. So does that mean that Atlantic City is nicer than Bethany?

And BTW, the kid passed Canadian money at the toll and was called back to pay it. What is wrong with that?

I think the point is that the rangers are overzealous to a fault and will selectively enforce the rules depending on whether you are a surfer or not. For me, I have had several ridiculous encounters with rangers concerning my dog - I won't go into the details - lest I relive my anger, but lets just say that the level of enforcement was absurd - like a Monty Python skit.
I have seen others ticketed for going behind a dune to take a pee. C'mon!

It does make me think twice about going surfing in DE. The federales at Teague can be pesky in a federal government rule sort of way, but if you talk it thru with them they are usually reasonable. The state d1cks in DE are of a whole different order...they are all about power-tripping, not rangering.

And if you want to drive at Teague, well no need for a stupid fishing pole...just go surf.
    my 2 cents.

By the way - thank you David for the original heads up.

You cannot compare Bethany to Atlantic City you moron. Look at how many nice beaches there are in NJ. LBI, Spring Lake, Cape May just to name a couple decent ones.

Did you grow up in DE? Is that why you are being this defensive over this joke of a state?
