I was there for a week about a year and a half ago - had a great time despite pretty bad conditions every day. The locals are super friendly - learn a few Brazilian Portuguese phrases before you go and definitely bring some surf mags to drop off at the bars, they really appreciate that type of thing. The nightlife is really fun and laid back, too (as long as you really, REALLY like reggae, lol!). Have a great trip!
Florianopolis would be best. Where you are staying it's sandy beach break There are plenty of surf spots there. But, either way this time of the year down there is no good. You are looking at 2ft waves at best. July/August is the time to go. Sorry to break the news to you. Oh, and some advice If it looks like a woman, It might not be.
so I'll rent the long board and hopefully have some fun!! supposed to be a cool surf school there 5 days in Itacare, then 5 days in the Amazon (starting in Manaus) beats working
FreemdomRider - are you surfing with the EasyDrop camp? If so, you can't go wrong, they definitely have the town wired - Have fun!
I'll have to second that on Aguaholic's last point...saw some damn scary **** on the drive in from Ilheus
