Im headed to my friends place in oc for the weekend and im trying to steal a few waves while im there from the small swell coming in. Do you think I can make it out for a while with just booties and no gloves or a hood?

water is still cold, it is still March. 41.5 as of right now. not fun for very long without gear, if at all. buy the rubber while you are here, you might find a deal, maybe. shops should be clearing out inventory soon.

I tried going out without gloves and a hood back in Oct/Nov and I nearly cried. Good luck with going without them.. You might last 5 mins if you have the nads.

Do what Xgen said and do yourself a favor and buy at LEAST 5mm boots and 5mm gloves. I got the Rip Curl 3 finger mitts and they're damn near waterproof and warm.

When my hands go, I go. :(

You can take rubber gloves and put your wetsuit over them. My friend did that once.

I lost a glove last winter during a big swell ( I think it was noel). I had another set of gloves, but one dry rotted. No money to buy new, so now I paddle around with one 3 mil webbed glove, and one 5 mil regular glove. Kinda sucks because one hand is cold and I keep swimming in circles.:D

looks like the water is finally beginning to warm up. oc md is showing 51 degrees and the OBX is right around there too. I can't wait to shed that rubber!

I was about to say the same thing...

I remember last fall we got a very decent swell mid November and I was in a 3/2 with no boots/gloves/hood....

The walk from the street/beach to the water sucked though because the sand/street was really cold but the water was fine.
