my buddy says he could surf in the current water temp and get 5 rides without a wet suit. who agrees that it would be slightly impossible????
maybe if your buddy is on crack. his body would be so numb, he wouldnt be able to function. It doesn't take very long for hypothermia to set in, so after 20 minutes his core temperature would drop significantly and he would be endangering his life.
yeah that dude is crazy they did the same thing at J-Bay during the Billabong Pro one year and that water was prob a lot higher than here and the dude looked so cold
i saw some dude in board shorts in squan last year. i was wearing a 3/2, 3mm booties and possibly 2mm gloves and froze hard so it mustve been late april, early may im guessing. the guy was out there for a solid half hour or 45 min. what a tank
tell me where hes paddling out at and i would love to watch. ill even put up money to see this act.goodluck to him
I think it is possible. You run out, catch the first waves that come along, then come back in. However you will start to go through hypothermia and it would really suck. Make sure you get it on video.
i think its totally possible. with training though. http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,22081301-952,00.html
I'll wager there is no way! And after you went numb, you would be in intense pain. When I first started surfing here on the east side, I was out in the winter with a 6/4, but had 3mm gloves, and booties, and after a half hour, I was in some real pain in my hands and feet. Got out, went and bought some 5mm gloves and booties, so I say no way for trunks only.
just last week i saw a family show up on the beech and a teenager attempted to boogie board in just boardshorts. that didn't last long
if he is on long board on a knee high day or less its possible to surf 5 waves and never get wet i mean his hands might end up pretty cold but i still don't give him much chance of doing it
it is possible. but on the second note no its not impossible and stupid he will freeze his family jewles off.
