it depends. also, many roads are also financed by gas taxes, not income taxes which is what we are talking about here. same with tolls, aka use taxes.

varies by state but many states have special funds from specific taxes for roads. For the most part we are discussing income taxes. I assume you think our governments spends that money wisely???

Gov'ts from little town USA all the way to federal level mismanage our tax revenues...it makes me sick.

I ain't no right wing nut jog either...but if I ran my house like most gov'ts, things would spiral out of control, which may be what is happening as we speak (usa). F more taxes.

Half of it could shut down this very moment and the onliest people who would care are the gov't employees who would have to go work real jobs.

My taxes paid for my local beach's parking lot to get paved. No more driving the 911 through a muddy mine field.

Basically a quarter of your federal income taxes goes towards defense. There is less than a half a percent devoted to community development, but I doubt much of that goes towards the roads. Scroll down a little further, and you will see that generally 5% of state and local taxes goes towards transportation (roadways). I am sorry, tolls do not pay for more than the toll road itself. In SC, there are no toll roads, thus no money from tolls. Much of our road funding comes from gasoline tax, local tax, and state tax.
BTW, even combined with gasoline taxes, tolls do not pay for more that a third of the roadway expenses on average in the states.

As for taxes, yes they suck, but we have it pretty good in this country (and even more so in the southern states). The feds are wasteful, but the fact that our country can't stay out of wars doesn't seem to be helping anything.

 

OMG, if you didn't pay taxes you'd pay a lot more for privatized services of things you take for granted everyday that the gov provides with your tax contributions.

Then frickin move to some tax-less country. Bring your assault rifles, too. You may need them.
