I saw the boys in Jersey got absolutely lit up by the latest system a couple days ago. Needless to say I'm thoroughly jealous and wanna see some footy. We have 2.5' at 12-14 seconds scheduled for tomorrow so I'm gonna keep my hopes up the waves will be half as good as jersey had it. Anyone paddling out tomorrow down in the dirty south?
Hold on a moment.. I thought or fought that Florida was the epicenter of east coast surfing.. NSB is always waist-high and firing.... Hey Flurida, cheer-up, us New Jersey types won't be surfing for a good minute. We are in some late October'ish WNW/NW wind orgy for the next few days. We ain't got no NSB around here except for #@#$, and it's no NSB. That made sense. Anyways, might be a foot or two right now, I haven't bothered checking, but you'll surf tomorrow and we won't. And that's not right or proper. Florida gets all the breaks.
Well it ain't looking any good now at high tide...... So I feel a lil better. I'm in a surfing mood, and I wasn't three months ago(had nothing to do with temperatures).
Should be something tomorrow. There was supposed to be a little wave today and now they're saying maybe by this evening but wind is now onshore and the tide is backing out. I'm starting to get that hopelessly depressed summer feeling already.
Last Saturday am early as the high tide was maxing, we went up to Jupiter Island and it was barreling chest high over the rocks. Fun short adrenaline rush waves. It's been almost flat (surfcampable only) since then. Tomorrow looks like fun, too bad I have to go to the Mouth of The Rat for a project. Hope ya'll have fun. If it's small this weekend I'm gonna teach my 11 year old nephew to catch a wave stand up style. So its a win win this weekend unless my sis says no.
Saturday was so fun up here in N FL. Has had me frothing all week because I finally feel like I'm progressing again and having a lot of fun with it. Then mother nature keeps tryna hold a man down.
Bro. All the Floridians on here have said it's been the best damn winter ever down there. Meanwhile, up north the world basically ended in apocalyptic fashion then proceeded to send all north easterners straight to an arctic hell...while you dixies were trunking it on the daily. Dis tread should be band.
Bro. Up in EMass these days, you can damn near boil eggs in the drink at a blistering 68F water temp. I charged 43F water in 24mph onshores yesterday with air about 53F and had to duck dive through wind chop about 30x in an hour and a half. Not exactly looking for a free meal at Waffle House for that feat of strength, but I'm trunking it and stoked in mid to high 60s water in the Florida sun. AT MOST, trunks and a 2mm topper. There are weary northeasterners pervading this forum that only now, nearly in May, have begun their thaw. To hear this talk is like an obese Oprah strutting through the trails in Somalia saying her blood sugar's getting a bit low.
The "florida sun" isn't terribly warm or strong this time of year in NE FL. It's a world of a difference from Central and especially S FL. I'm not saying high 60's and sunny with trunks a top is terrible. I could do it (and I have), but why would I want to? I like to be warm so I can focus on surfing not shivering my ass off. But then, we have all summer and most of fall to trunk it so we're really in no hurry. It's not a novelty to us like it is to some further north.
I'm not telling you to wear any less rubber than you're happy, safe, and comfortable doing. That said, the legions of us north of you will hear none of this rubbish that A) there is no swell in FL today or tomorrow; and 2) it's a bit chilly in the air, water, and sh!t, even the walk-in freezer at Dairy Queen in Jax. Love, Spicoli
