I can't decide what type of center fin to buy for my performance LB, so I thought I would turn to the forum for some advice.

Right now my 8' LB has a twin fin set up - just the side fins. Yeah I know that sounds ridiculous, but it works pretty well for our typical Central NC squishy windswell. I really like how loose and drifty my board feels with the twin fins, but I think it's time to get a good single, center fin to try.

What type of center fin would be good to maintain that loose feel while allowing me some control from up on the nose? A friend recommended something with a cutout, like the FCS Fatboy.

The cutaways are good... There is one called a squirrel or something with and airplane pic.

Personally I like the basic outline for the drive- with the fin moved forward and a little loose in the box.

Loose from the tail and control from the nose... on an "performance LB" that's only 8-0... that you've been riding as a twin fin... isn't something you see every day. Got any pics? Better yet, video of you riding it?

Twin fins are for kooks. Stay away from channel type waves that break up the face not towards the peak, or you won't go anywhere.

Thanks for the suggestions. Think I'm gonna get squirrely. Might give the Flex fin a shot if I'm not satisfied with the squirrel this summer.

And yeah ... not up on the nose too often with the twin fin setup. Hence the center fin.

Just a few thoughts.Funny, when I rode a 5'6" twin in the 80s I thought LBs were for Kooks. Also when I saw the LB fin advice my first thought was get rid of the board. Just kiddin' around with ya'll so don't get all pissy. I don't think I've ever seen any body ride a twin LB?

Seems that just 2 bigger fins on the rails might be pretty good to climb and drop if they are pointed at the nose a little (toed in) and the single 8 incher might glide and trim quicker. A little of both could be a single 6 or 7" basic rake and sidebites 3" or so. Oh, an 8'er is not a longboard, it's more midsizey. 8' funshapes are stupendous fun even without fins but you won't pull any young chicks w/ one. Well, maybe if it was laminated with Benjamins.

Good thoughts, cackalack comrade. I should try to minimize fin surface area to get that "loose" feel, right? So single 8"?

Yes, go with a single 8er, the Greenough 4-A or FCS Dolphin would be perfect. It's what I have for my 8'1" McTavish and 9' HPLB, similar fins. Go one inch for every foot of board, push it up in the box and get jiggy wit it
