Looks like the swell that originated from the South Pole with 50-fotters in the open sea is actually reaching up here in NorCal on Sunday. 3.5ft at 24s. Surfed 23s at Lowers 15 months ago and the sneaker sets were unreal. Remember it being weird and fast. Long waits in between sets but pretty damn groomed.

Gotta look at maps and talk to buds here since it's a SSW swell, so not optimal for most spots here. Then again, 24s should be wrapping around and getting in just about anywhere.

Maybe it'll be sic, maybe just strange but I'm looking forward to it.

spicoli, ssw is good news for mavs. With periods in 20s, sh1ts guaranteed to jack the last few hundred yards to shore. Bring a gun. Matter fact bring two.

Spicoli, there's a few good south swell spots in Santa Cruz I hear. But if you don't buy crystal from Anthony Ruffo you probably won't be allowed out there. Sorry.

So what do you actually do in California? You should just move there. You'd probably get a good price selling your Hull beach front home.

Oh Spicoli why are you so mysterious with your jobs and trips and stuff?

    Why? Oh why?

You're probably in the San Fernando valley producing pornography. Must be something like that if you own your own business and don't take advantage of free advertising on here.

Spicoli, we'll all buy your products/services if you'd just tell us. Let us support you, Spicoli.

Hey Spicoli, you ever get The Rasberry by anyone in California yet? I lived all over the place and Californians are by far the biggest a'holes when it comes to hassling, bullying and getting snarky with people.

Like, in schools around here, if you are new you just get ignored. But 'fornians like hassling people. So, you ever get hassled out there yet?

You ever got in any squabbles leaving LAX. Inglewood always up to no good. You know what I am sayin'?

Ah, I love you Spicoli. Hey any progress befriending Za Gaffer yet?

It was sorta fun this morning. Got some sleigh rides, and even a DK barrel going right at a l-handed point. One big takeoff barrel too, which is rare for the mushy spot where I was.

The combo SW swell was crossing up all the beachbreaks, plus there was some leftover junk from the onshores that have been blasting nonstop for the last week. My work spot was bombing DOH+ closeouts, so I went to a sheltered point. It was warbly and maybe bit OH on the biggest sets. Definately a long period swell. Majorly closed out for the most part. Fun to watch it stack up way outside from the hill, though.

Funny somebody mentioned CA jerkoffs. There were at least a couple of donkeys out there calling waves before they even started paddling. Then they'd miss it. Kooks.

The rest of the week should be better as the swell backs off and cleans up. Hopefully the sand won't be completely blown away at my work spot. Tomorrow should be fun.

I hit up the Peninsula (Marin County) yesterday. Had a ton of work to do earlier in the day so I couldn't get out on the water early. Hit it in afternoon. Wanted badly to be in Santa Cruz but buds preferred to stay up closer to SF.

Swell was still 18-21s by the afternoon but I think direction had gone from 210 or so to straight 180. I think the wind was coming from the NW in the high teens by then too. It was gusty at times then calmer at others. Pretty clean and not soupy given the wind, but I'd imagine lines are gonna be pretty solid on organization from a wave that's coming all the way below South America.

Here's the kicker: Some of the most punchless swell I've ever seen on the west. In any period. Tide wasn't helping I'm sure but sh!t, 7ft @ 21s and it's tough to get in on anything other than a LB out back on the patch? Just wasn't feeling the bottom properly even though sets were coming in steady. Could've been some confusion with the WNW swell coming in, and that ones actually building to 10@10 tomorrow. I managed to get some rides on the inside of the channel of the groin and I've not seen decent waves breaking there usually at this spot so that was a plus. Only problem was you had to be careful on closeouts as it was shore break.

Positives were surfing for 1.5 hours on a real nice day looking at the mountains and getting my first day on a 6'2 rounded pin of only 31.5L that I scored for only $150 including FCS2's. It's only 19.25" wide but paddled like a dream. This was the step-up I've been looking for.

Water was 53F but I wasn't a bit cold in a 3/2 with no boots or gloves. You could feel a major difference in water temp at times in certain spots, was that due to the S/SSW coming from the equator? Don't know, so I'm asking.

Trying to bang out a big day of work today so I can hit it again Weds morning hopefully down in SC. The WNW/NW swell is supposed to be peaking there then. These winds have been way higher than predicted this week.

Overall, no epic session to report, no epic looking waves either. Maybe I was in the wrong spot, but blame it on my buds. Dude paddling out at same time said he was just north of SC in the morning and it was way blown out so I'm interested to hear if everyone's been skunked this swell so far. Crap, things could be worse - I could not be getting a tan and keeping in paddling shape.

Oh, btw...experienced first quake on Sunday. I believe it was either a 3.6 or 3.9 and I was only 4mi from the epicenter. Heard a huge boom then saw, heard and felt the apartment complex in front of me shake for a solid 3 seconds. I was skating and no one else was around, but I definitely thought to myself "that had to have just been a damn earthquake". Funny part is I just skated on and literally forgot about it until last night when wahine mentions something about the quake in town the day before and I said ohhhh yeahhh then recounted my experience with it.

Gotta be pretty relaxed and in the moment if I'm forgetting that. No complaints. Hope you buoys are doing well and getting on something somewhere this week. Any tips on spots are much appreciated via PM.

    Now this is something....

I've never heard of a swell being referred to solely by it's period.

    I mean NEVER.

I blame that on these surf predictin website thingys.

Hey, Tony, you catch that 10 second swell last week?

    That is so odd.

Then you're getting into directional degrees. LOL

Spicoli, relax bro, this isn't a science class, it's surfing dude.

There's a 10 foot WNW coming in ? Hey someone tell Jesus that it's May.

Hey your step-up/gun is a 6'2'' ? Wow, you must be shorter than I am.

Your feet weren't cold in 53 degree water?

Is this the Twilight Zone? I see that a lot in mags and sh!t where 'Fornians don't wear gloves in 50 - 54 F water but they wear hoods? I wear gloves in 53 F and I wear boots 58 F or less. That's how the body is. 53 F water will make a human's hand cold. It's science just ax Brewengineer.

Hey, next winter, Spicoli, be sure to check out Patrick's Point with all of these way overhead waves. They like Irish guys there, Spicoli.

Hey, so are you, like, totally comfortable in big waves?

And you will be doing what for work today? C'mon, man. Why the big secret?

Alright, I know it sounds like I'm Eddie Haskell giving the Beav the business, but I dig Spicoli. He's one of the more interesting folks on here.
